Guest guest
Hi Alia, That must be so frustrating to have finally found a med that works for Caroline in controlling the uveitis and now the problem with ear infections. Both of my kids had 3 sets of tubes. My son was 9 when he had his last set of tubes and has never had another problem with ear infections. I think Aundrea was seven with her last set. I guess they just need to get old enough so that the eustachian tube will become more vertical instead of horizontal and basically just a breeding ground for infection. Sorry, to hear you are having so many troubles with Caroline. I will be praying for her! Guest guest
Alia, Poor Caroline. It seems that just when things are getting better, something else goes wrong. About the ear infections, especially since she's already had tubes... Has anyone ever done allergy testing on Caroline? I ask because when my 17 yr old was that age we'd been dealing with ear infection after ear infection. Ten days on antibiotics, 4 or 5 days off and then we'd start over. Finally a new pediatrician (We moved to the Midwest) suggested that allergies might be the cause of the recurrent infections. Sure enough, he tested highly allergic to soy, beef, bananas and one other thing. (Too long ago to remember what and he did eventually outgrow all of it). Anyway, when we took the offending things out of his diet he stopped getting ear infections. There may be no connection in Caroline's case, but it never hurts to ask. I hope she does okay without the enbrel and the mtx. Give her hugs from us. Liz and (12, poly) Back on Prednisone Caroline's on her third ear infection in five weeks! Ugh! We have an appointment with an ENT on Monday to hopefully get tubes put BACK into her ears. In the meantime, her rheumy feels like her system is too at risk for infection and we have to hold her Enbrel and Methotrexate for the next two weeks. However, because she is certain she will flare without them, we have to go back on Prednisone. We will start giving her 2 cc's of Prednisone daily for the next two week or until our next appointment on the 17th. This is soo frustrating! We just tapered her off it last week and now here we go again! Her rheumy also said if she keeps getting infections, that we will probably have to take her off Enbrel permanently and switch to cyclosporine. I am also worried, because Methotrexate is the only thing that has kept her eyes from flaring! Guest guest
Thanks ! Alia Back on Prednisone Caroline's on her third ear infection in five weeks! Guest guest
--Alia.. Sorry to hear of Miss C's continued ear infections.. poor babe. I know what you mean about prednisone... ughhh!!!! but if it helps for the short term then it has to be. I hope once the tubes go in the infections will stop and caroline can continue on her MTX/enbrel combo, it seems like it was working well for her until the infections.. hugs Helen and (7,systemic) - In , " Pranke, Alia " <Alia.Pranke@t...> wrote: > Caroline's on her third ear infection in five weeks! Guest guest
Yes, the rheumy will still be able to start a more aggressive treatment. The fact that prednisone helped you will tell him something. If you're just on a dose pack, the results of that will not last until October. Make sure to tell him about all of the symptoms that you've had. Don't leave anything out. Write them down so that you won't forget anything. It might even be a good idea to keep a pain journal until you see him. I hope you get a good rheumy. Guest guest
I take 25mg for 5 days and then taper down so i take 20, 15, 10, the 5 mg...so my courses are 9 days long. This usually works for me. Guest guest
My initial prednisone Blast was similar to Becky's. For the first five days I would take 10mg with breakfast, 10mg with lunch and 10 meg with dinner. Then for the next seven days I would take 10mg with breakfast and again at lunch. Next was 10mg with breakfast and 5 meg at lunch. After this initial Blast I would daily alternate 5mg or 10mg at breakfast. I've maintained this 5mg or 10mg daily alteration for the last two years and it has served me well. From my research men should be able to tolerate around 7.5mg of prednisone per day (taken at breakfast) with minimal, if any, side effects. Back on prednisone After a year of no prednisone I think I need to take it again. What is the minimum dosage that works to get rid of polyps? I know that dosage needs to be heavy at the front end and then declines.
