Guest guest
I would say that my RA is in remission with Enbrel. How long has he been on it? Perhaps another one of the biologics, such as Humira, would work better for him. Or maybe he needs to give the Enbrel and Arava more time. Guest guest
WW, RA like so many auto-immune disease effecs everyone a little differently. I have seen improvement with Embrel and Methotrexate. I still have bad pain in my hands but my knees are much better. They are finding new meds everyday and research has come along way. Read all you can, listen to the people in the groups and find the combination that works for him.It is wonderfull to see that you are taking such an active part in his disease. Support means more than anything else. Heidi M On 9/8/07, Sue <marysue@...> wrote: > > I would say that my RA is in remission with Enbrel. How long has he > been on it? Guest guest
Thanks for responding. He has already tried Humira and it had stopped working so his rheumotologist has him on Enbrel. He's already been through Humira, Humira + Methatrexate, Avara, Avara + Enbrel, etc but the disease has clearly progressed. Is there anything in the way of exercise or diet that you have found effective? ww --- Sue <marysue@...> wrote: > I would say that my RA is in remission with Enbrel. > How long has he > been on it? Guest guest
Thanks for the response. How long have you had the disease? Are you still able to work? Are there any other support groups you'd recommend? ww --- Heidi Mendelsohn <hmendelsohn@...> wrote: > WW, > RA like so many auto-immune disease effecs > everyone a little differently. > I have seen improvement with Embrel and > Methotrexate. Guest guest
I did read in the Arthritis Foundation's magazine that there may be some truth to the old adage that diet and food allergies can exacerbate flares. If you have good coverage, it might be worth it to see an allergist and see if there's any foods that he should avoid. Guest guest
That's too bad that his rheumatologist has not found the right combo of meds to relieve his pain and inflammation. I realize how very lucky I am that Enbrel works so well for me. He should keep complaining to his rheumy about his pain; the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I can't tell that diet affects my RA at all. I have diabetes and therefore try to eat a healthy diet that limits carbohydrates. I think it's always important to eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables. The same is true of exercise; it's good for one's overall health. I hope your husband gets some relief soon. You're a gem for supporting him. Sue On Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 01:56 PM, Tina McGurk wrote: > Thanks for responding. Guest guest
I would suggest seeking a second opinion. Remission is the goal and can be achieved in many cases. Guest guest
Tina, Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you I have been down the past few days. I went to a physical therapist and they taught me streching exercises for my fibro. I find that streching my legs out and arms out helps loosen me up . I usually take a hot shower after that. The one thing I have found that helps my hands is pariffin wax treatment. you can get the wax an the machine ( looks like a crock pot)you can find it at target or walmart. It feels great.
