Guest guest
Tonight I felt compelled to have a huge dinner and eat without respect to subtle hunger signals. I have been doing just great up to then with eating. Could tonight's big dinner been what my body really wanted? I think it could be because I am still fighting with the food police and the diet mentality is still somewhat present. I can't seem to completely accept food freedom because at the same time I want to desperately lose some weight before my vacation in July. Little thoughts of deprivation are sneaking in. The IE approach are helped me immensely so far. I am a little surprised at how voraciously and how much I ate tonight. I am wondering if it is common to have a surprise binge when IE had been working so well? Thanks, Pen
Guest guest
Thank you for your post. I needed such a fearless soul searching inventory this morning. I too, and struggling with my food and body. Its really easy for me to forget that food is a fuel source and not some abusive partner I am in a relationship with. Food is a fuel source! I went to the park Sunday and had a picnic. I didnt eat alot of the foods we had brought but then yesterday I couldnt get enough! I, too, was doubting the " safety " of the intuitive eating, but then I read your post. I am now seeing that I did alot of walking at the park. My muscles are sore today and were yesterday. The foods I ate yesterday were balanced meals and I didnt feel overly stuffed or sedated. I understand your fears about your vacation, but youre already on vacation!!!! The freedom from the diet mentality is a HUGE gift. Loving yourself where, when, how, why and what you are is in alignment with a higher powers purpose and fulfillment for your ultimate happiness. Enjoy yourself on vacation! <~a time free from normal routine. Just a question......are you trying to restrict now so that you can eat what you want on vacation? Is it because you fear that IE will fail you on vacation? That popped in my mind as to what I would be afraid of for me. Hope this helps. Your post was a gift to me. Thank You!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Yes, it is very common to have fluctuations in your eating habits. It sounds to me like you either allowed yourself to get too hungry, you were feeling emotional or maybe something hormonal was going on. Never put a lot of food on your plate even if you think you are very hungry (you can always take more) and EAT SLOWLY which gives you a chance to tune in to how your stomach feels. Also, I wait five minutes before deciding if I want to eat more. I would also like to comment that you are judging your eating as a binge. It sounds to me like you just ate more than felt comfortable, that's all. > > Tonight I felt compelled to have a huge dinner and eat without respect > to subtle hunger signals. > I am wondering if it is common to have a surprise binge when IE > had been working so well? >
Guest guest
I have been IE since last July. I still have meals/occasions in which I overeat. However, it is happening less and less. I have realized that it is unrealistic to expect that I am instantly going to become a normal eater just because I started IE. I have spent more than a decade dieting and binging. It takes a lot of time and effort to learn how to be a normal eater after that. It's not clear to me by your post whether you ate past hunger or whether you just happened to be very hungry last night. Either way, it's no big deal. IE is not about being perfect. And I urge you to not judge yourself negatively when you don't eat intuitively. That guilt we get over food is part of the diet mentality. It is much more effective to be kind and loving toward ourselves. Also, I hate to say this, but I don't think it's realistic to start IE and expect that you are going to lose weight by July. It's much more common for people to gain a little weight or to maintain when they first start IE. It may take 6 months or a year before you start to lose. I have been doing this since last July. I gained some weight at first, and I am just now starting to slowly lose.
