Guest guest Posted November 26, 2006 Report Share Posted November 26, 2006 Dharna and Rally by People Living with HIV/AIDS Demanding Provision of Second Line AIDS Drugs Venue: Jantar Mantar-New Delhi Dates: 29 November to 1 December (world AIDS Day) 2006 " If we could not access second line ARV drugs now, many of us will not be there to witness the next World AIDS Day, " said Umashankar Pandey who is on his way from Kachchh in Gujarat to take part in the Dharna at Jantar Mantar. 20 People living with HIV/AIDS who are failing to respond to the first line ARV medicines, representing various states from Kerala to Uttar Pradesh will go on a Dharna at Jantar Mantar from 29 November to December 1st world AIDS Day demanding immediate provision of Second line ARV drugs through the NACO's ARV rollout programme. Dr. Karan Singh Yadav, M.P, Vice Chairperson of the Indian Medical Parliamentarians Forum will inaugurate Dharna on 29 November 11 am. Around 200 People Living with HIV/AIDS representing 23 states will assemble for the inaugural meeting. Member of Parliament, S.Sudhakar Reddy, Stern,K.K.Abraham and other PLHA leaders, Activists and Social Workers representing various organizations will address the inaugural meeting. Former Prime Minister Shri I.K Gujral, in a letter to INP+ president wrote that he share the same concern and would drop-in to the Dharna- sthal to express his solidarity. " Anti retroviral drugs is lifeline for people living with HIV/AIDS, you need not to die of AIDS as it happens now if you have access to affordable AIDS drugs " said Elango Ramachandar President of Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS(INP+). Dharna will continue till December 1 11.30 am World AIDS day and will end with a public gathering after about 350 PLHA representing 23 states coming in by a peaceful rally. Activists and Social workers representing various organizations will join the public meeting. Member of Parliament Prof M.Ramdass, Stern and other dignitaries will address the public meeting. Forum members are invited to drop-in to the Dharna-sthal along with your colleagues at any feasible time. Your presence will not only amplify the voice of people in struggle, but also will be a great encouragement to the whole community of People Living with HIV/AIDS, their families and caregivers.
