Guest guest
This is just off the top of my head. Most diabetics can eat fruits, that is whole fruits and definitely not fruit juices. I would say if you eat fruits, eat only whole fruits and even then eat them sparingly. For diabetics it would be best to avoid the sugar fructose at all times unless it is in a whole fruit which contains other nutrients along with the fructose like bioflavanoids and other phyto-nutrients. Guest guest
Dr. Mirkin says that we should only eat fruit when we are eating something else so it will digest slower. so just dont eat fruit by itself. Guest guest
Dear Dean and Everyone, Guess the French were on the right track when they routinely served fruit and cheese for dessert. Guest guest
Dean and Harry, Thanks for the insight. I like apples and strawberries, how do those rate in our dietary situation? Bill
Guest guest
I think Dr. Mirkin was talking more about eating fruits and root veggies with other low carb veggies such as a salad. Guest guest
Bill, Fruit is 100 percent sugar. However, if yo eat it in small amountsand maybe eliminate some other starch in that meal, fruit has many positive things. I don't eliminate fruit entirely, but sure do limit the amount Of course, I can cover the amount of carbs from fruit with insulin, which type 2 diabetics can not do, so if the fruit they eat makes the BG go up, it is harder to get it down. How About Fruits? I'm confused by things I've heard about fruits not being good for diabetics but yet the benefits of fruits touted for everyone else. Can someone give me the scoop on whether we can eat any fruits at all? Or because of sugar content, do we just stay away from all fruit? Guest guest
Fresh strawberries are very good, since they are low in carbs as compared to apples. I also like a quarter of an apple, when I eat one. I always eat fruit with other foods in a meal, since just eating fruit alone shoots my glucose level up rapidly.
