Guest guest
Dear Forum, One of our member (Bengal Network for PLWHA) from Midnapur district is facing problem with his Child's education. His wife and his child both are not HIV Positive. His three year old baby boy was studying in KG 1. Because of father's HIV Positive status that child has thorn out from the school. The story was like that, after knowing the status of the kid’s father, the school authority asked the HIV report from that family. They gave it to them. It was clearly mentioned that the child is HIV non reactive. But the authority did not bother on it. At the time of submission the report they refund the money what give on the admission time for admission and told them we will not allow him in this school. They requested them to allow the child to study but the school authoriteis were stuck on their decision. Lastly they informed TO BNP+. We from our network conacted the media. They covered the stody. And we informed our WBSACS P.D also about this incident. We are waiting for the positive response from our P.D. We know we will get it from our P.D. We also informed local authority. We are waiting the right judgment from them. Can you suggest us any other way to solve this problem? Because there is no room to negotiate. The school authority is not ready to listen to us. We would like to know another way to solve this problem because it is not the problem for any individual but it the major problem of a society. Regards, Tarit. Guest guest
Dear Tarit, If there is no problem in disclosing the name of the village, block, district (paschim or purva Medinipur) and the name of the school along with phone numbers of the School. Is it a Government or private school? Have you tried the talking to the district party office as CPM holds sway on both paschim and purva Medinipur? If yes, please share the details and with whom did you or BNP+ get in touch? If you could give me the details I could explore some ways to resolve this issue and try to ensure that the child gets admissions in school. With warm regards. Guest guest
Re: West Bengal: HIV Negative child of a +ve Father thrown out of the school. Hello everybody, It has been VERY CLEARLY stated in the mail in the last line that it is the problem of the society and not the individual. So we need to approach this issue in a better way. After a struggle, if the same school gives admission, neither the child will feel comfortable (fortunately here the child is very very young) nor the parents will feel good/happy about it. Everyone of us would like to be in a place where we're being accepted (in alll walks of life. I'm sure there will be ATLEAST one school where they will accept the child to be their student. We can take efforts to IDENTIFY the school and help the child to have her education. Society is nothing but we individuals. We need to take a turn if there's a block in a road in order to reach the place where we need to go. Removing the block needs time, manpower, etc depending on the magnitude of the block. It can be done by an individual at times but not always Bridgitte Akila e-mail <bridgitte_akila@...>
