Guest guest
Hi EveryOne, I'm perplexed:-)) Please..... clarify this for me! How can we feel well if we take enough thyroid hormone to supress our own thyroid production but not enough for a full replacement dose? Is there any way to take some thyroid hormone from outside and still have your own thyroid gland produce the rest of what you need in the balance? Isn't that the idea of not surpressing your TSH too low by taking a low dose of Armour? Say you take one grain of Armour, that isn't nearly enough so you are depending on your thyroid gland to supply the rest right? Current thyroid treatment seems to follow this idea. But..........Doesn't any amount of Armour stop the thyroid gland from producing on its own? It is my understanding that when you give Thyroid Hormone from outside such as Armour that the Pituitary Gland does not call for thyroid hormone via TSH so the thyroid gland (assuming that it is still there) stops working. Then you are totally dependent on what you take from outside. A full " replacement dose " of Thyroid Hormone is something close to 5 grains of Armour. Now if your own thyroid is either missing or shut down and you take less than five grains of Armour... you are getting _less_ than a healthy thyroid would supply day in and day out. If you take say 1 or 2 or even 3 grains aren't you depriving your body of enough thyroid hormone to really feel well? Wouldn't that put a strain on your adrenals and every other part of the body? When people start out with 1 grain or less and after a week or so they feel worse isn't it apt to be because they shut down the thyroid gland production by supplementing from outside but they need to add more Armour? All clarification most welcome:-)) Peace, Love and Harmony, Bev
