Guest guest
Dear Friends, Sub: Request for HIV project support for garment workers union, Bangalore I am writing on Behalf of “The Garment Workers Union Bangalore”. The Garment Workers union Bangalore is an independent workers union without any political affiliations. Garment Workers union is established in the year of 2000 in Bangalore. In Bangalore there is a boom of garment manufacturing units in the recent years. Hundreds of huge garment manufacturing units are opened in the recent years. More than half million young women and men (90% are women) are employed in the industry. These employees are migrated from their villages in search of job. We all know migrate workers are in high risk category in infecting with STD’s and HIV. The union is very serious about the health issues of its members and the workers at the large level. Union is already engaged in organizing health awareness camps for the workers and the community with the support of employers and local NGO’s. There is immediate need of intervention to prevent the rapid spread in infection of HIV among this poor workers community. The union has coverage of 90,000 members from 300 garment manufacturing units. I am requesting interested agencies and foundation that can help us to take up a project. The project will includes issues like awareness, treatment for STI’s, legal and employment issues of people infected with HIV, trainings on home based care and community responsibility etc. Interested agencies can please contact: N M Muthappa General Secretary. The Garment Workers union. Bangalore. Karnataka, India Phone: 09845774100, Fax: 26751696 Email: garments_union@...
