I truly enjoyed talking to the nurse yesterday and she helped me get started on what I can eat and do. How many carbs I can have per meal. So I truly feel once I get the sugar pill started witch has to be done tomorrow the nurse wanted me to do the blood pressure pill first. So if there are problems they know witch one is causing them. Also sent a message to my mobility instructor to see if I can get some help walking straight with my cane across streets. I must say though I don't like to walk by myself. Truly don't think that I could get my husband to walk with me. but who knows. Mine is called Bates. You need to keep a record of the birthday of your diabetes, since this disease is now with you for the rest of your life unless a cure is made. You can even make a hotkey for that file. Putting in things like your diabetes birthday is important and what you are doing for it like medications, dates, diet, problems and so forth. This may help you from becoming insulin dependent. I found out about my diabetes diagnosis the usual way following a heart attack in June of 1987, when the emergency room doctor said I was having a heart attack and the next day he informed me, " Oh, and by the way you also have diabetes. So waiting for my mobility instructor to come and help me out to make sure all is rite. She works all over Montana but will see my email message when she gets back to Billings. On average I tested six times per day once before each meal and once two hours after each meal for a total of six tests per day at least. At a cost of 90¢ per test strip, this can run almost an average of $5.50 per day when testing six times, or putting it another way around $165 per month for the cost of test strips alone. This is why diabetes is an expensive disease to manage. As expensive as it is I feel it is a lot cheaper than the cost of the loss of one's eyesight, foot or leg amputations, heart attacks, potency, strokes, and kidneys just to mention a few things. If one follows the advice available here today, I feel one can finally learn to manage their diabetes on no less than three test strips per day or glucose monitoring after each meal. At three test per day that would cost around $4.50 per day or still around $115 per month just for the cost of the test strips, not counting medications or special diets. Today after mastering glucose control I still test usually at least 4 times per day. I do not know how those with fewer resources, than I have, manage to master and maintain glucose control. I would certainly like to hear from those who can tell us how to do it on a very tight budget or no budget at all and no insurance, medicare or medicaid. I know several people in this situation, and they work 40-50 hours per week and still do not have enough money to pay for their diabetic supplies, and therefore they have not mastered glucose level control and they are at high risk of developing diabetic complications. Please tell me the minimum tests per day you feel a person can do in order to master glucose level control. I need your help on this matter. Most schools recognize the difficulty in negotiating crossings on busy streets and traveling down walkways in commercial areas. What one needs to know and understand are those things which will keep one safe while crossing streets and negotiating new or unfamiliar areas. A very good understanding of the mechanics of an intersection is an absolute must. Being able to know where you are and where you are going is another must. Surprisingly (well, perhaps not) there are many handicapped people who have no idea where they live, how to get there or how to get anywhere from there. Now, this sad fact is not only limited to handicapped folks. I have taken some of my 15 year old daughter's friends and they can not give me concise directions to their house - frightening to say the least... Take care and more later, Cy, the Ancient Okie... If you get no results from the supervisor you need to see the manager. Ask at the office, about the complaint process. There is a complaint process, and it works. Believe me, if the instructor is found to be negligent that instructor will not remain in his job.When you launch a complaint, there is an investigation, which is conducted by a client service representative who will help you decide what course of action to take. If you take no action, there will be no resolution, and other folks will go through what you are now going through! If you wish, write me off line with specific details, including date, time, and location. I will try and help you to contact the people to inform of these happenings! There is no reason for you to eat crow. You have just as much power as the instructor, and if he does not like living and working in a fish bowl, then he needs to get out of the business. You can be assertive without being aggressive by insisting in a nice way that he take his time and if he doesn't then report him.
