Guest guest
Hello everyone How weird! I can't feel my fibroid any longer and my bladder pressure and frequent urination have also gone! I am 48 and the 8cm fibroid was confirmed via utrasound 14 mths ago. My periods were regular until about 6 mths ago when they became irregular, painfull, heavy and contantly spotting throught out the cycles. Five weeks ago i began having hot flashes and also noticed i was able to retain a normal bladder again. Last night for the first time in a month, i remembered to check the fibroid which has always been easy to feel especially during periods on the left side of the uterus. But low and behold what once felt sore to press and like a hard golf ball has gone! I have my next ultrasound in three weeks but curiosity got the better of me and i just had to ask whether anyone else has experienced this. Surely menopause and the withdrawl of estrogen doesn't happen this fast, or can it? has my fibroid shrunk so quickly. This is also the first month that i have had no spotting and no period either for 35 days now, most unusual. These hot flashes would be uncomfortable if it were summer, but fortunately its not, i'm downunder and still in autumn clothes i'm so warm phew, but then i freeze, so funny! I also wonder whether my change of diet has changed my hormones all of a sudden. 3 months ago I cut out all sugar and starches and changed to high protein foods, fish, cheese, chicken lean beef and gallons of vegetable juice, to stop anemia and build up minerals, which also got rid of my fluid retention. One would think the fibroid would be easier to feel now, since my stomach is so flat now without the carbs. but its empty now hard lump anywhere no matter how deep i press. Real strange. I've been reading through the archives and searching the net but can't anything about an 8 cm fibroid shrinking this fast? Its been so helpful to read this list, my gyno will be shocked at the questions i have listed :-) Thanks for any assistance Skye
Guest guest
Skye...how amazing! I'm wondering if the combination of the hormonal change and your diet are what's doing this. Could you tell me more about the starches? Have you cut out whole grains such as brown rice and wholemeal bread and potatoes also? When you say you're drinking gallons of vegetable juices...are you making your own juices? Of what are they made and how much do you drink per day? I'm downunder too....I could use some hot flashes to warm me up today! brrrrr Great news...anxious to hear more:-) Holly > Hello everyone > > How weird! Guest guest
Hi Holly, Yes it is amazing, especially considering my last period and the few before it which barely let up. During that time the fibroid and strangely the lower part of the uterus near the pubes was very hard and raised, very sore and tight and some clots were so large i wondered whether it was coming apart in there. Maybe the different fatty acids of the diet changed my hormones? When the period vanished without so much as a spot (like in the good old days :-) i was amazed, then the hot flashes started. Yes they are rather pleasant in this cold, but i don't now whether the healthy looking pink cheeks is the protein or the flushes :-) This seems to be a mystery even to the list so i shall have to wait for the ultra sound and the doc to get some answers. Every now and then i lay flat on the floor and try and press around for it. The side where it used to be is completely flat except that deep down its just a tiny bit firmer than the other side so i suspect it has shrunk, a lot! Yes i have cut out all grains and starches except for one day a week, Sundays (a light fluffy cream sponge :-) and i grow lots of leafy green vegetables which i juice in a Juiceman http://www.salton-maxim.com/salton/juiceman/juiceman.asp and purchase anything else i can juice for variety. I drink 4 cups per day, green as possible, sweetened with one quarter purple grapes and half a lemon. The grape juice is the only sugar i consume at the moment and still drink tea with milk. I'm learning to make sauce with a touch of sweet or dry sherry and ginger to eat with fish 4 days a week and quick stir frys and grills. My snacks are best quality Kiwi cheeses and good old Aussie Crackerbarrel cheese. Breakfast sometimes bacon and eggs or omelettes. What i love most about this kind of diet is the flawless skin (no sugar - at last i found the culprit) and the bloat and flatulence free stomach. The vegetable juice gives enough soluble fibre to keep the bowel regular. Aren't we funny us Aussies its 15C (60F) here in the middle of winter and we think its cold LOL hope this all helps, regards Skye From: hollyd@l... Guest guest
I have had a similar experience with my fibroids. I am 52 and last September I had my first experience with hot flashes. Since then my periods have been sporatic and not as heavy as they once were. Just before and during my period, I can easily feel my fibroid on my left side, and also sometimes when my bladder is fullest. But just after my period, I feel nothing, even when I press deep down. My gyn told me that they do not fluctuate in size. I am on a wait and see mode and think I can last through this until full menopause! Guest guest
I've got another question for you Skye, if that's alright...where did you learn of the diet you're on and what is your reason for cutting out all carbohydrates? From what I've read, whole grains are still meant to be good for all the B vitamins and fiber...so I'm curious:-) Thanks and cheers:-) Holly > Hello everyone > > How weird! Guest guest
From: hollyd@l... I've got another question for you Skye, if that's alright... Skye: by all means, feel free :-) Holly: where did you learn of the diet you're on and what is your reason for cutting out all carbohydrates? Skye: I used to eat nothing but organic fruits, vegetables and whole grains, no meat at all but i just can't digest all that fibre and my haemoglobin kept dropping to 8 (average woman is 12-15) without artificial iron so i couldn't continue. Over the years its been a process of elimination until i discovered that only proteins and vegetables keeps my stomach calm and HGB at 13. Grains or milk promptly cause bloat and gas, and sugar gives me annoying skin blemishes. Holly: From what I've read, whole grains are still meant to be good for all the B vitamins and fibre...so I'm curious:-) Skye: Yes of course, but alas they just don't agree with my system. Fortunately sufficient vitamins and megadoses of minerals can also be supplied by protein foods and heaps of vegetables plus their juices :-) Hope the list didn't mind the little diversion. Thanks for the chat Holly. Hi Carole, So good to hear. In that case we may just make it over the hill in time...whew :-) My mother and both sisters had to have hysterectomies because of anemia, i'm holding on for dear life. Isn't the aging process interesting, its own bodies yet we have no control over this eventuation, except to stay healthy of course and enjoy every minute :-) Best of health skye
Guest guest
Congratulations Skye, Sounds like you're doing great! I had been going to an acupuncturist for a while, and he had told me to cut out all red meat, sugar and white foods. He also had me on some Chinese herbs to help with the anemia. While I was going to him, my OB-GYN said my uterus was smaller than it had been and things looked good. I figured since " things looked good " I could stop going to the acupuncturist, and maybe 6 months to a year later, the bad symptoms (non-stop bleeding, etc.) started raring up again and I ended up getting a myomectomy. I have yet to go back to the acupuncturist; also have yet to start eating healthier again, but you're giving me inspiration, and re-affirming my deep-down feeling that I really gotta get " back on the shtick!!! " So thank you, and congratulations once again!!!
