Okay... not facts... just me.... I was 277 pounds with 21% body fat, I'm

5'10. I was in my mid 30's then. Held that weight for 5 years. Was a body

builder at the time.... At 165 pounds my bones stick out... I look like a

walking skeleton and am sickly.... at 277 I went in for a check up for my

job... the nurse had me stand on the scale. she shot the big weight over

to 100 and scooted the middle weight to 50 then let it settle to see how

much to adjust.... so a nurse... that weighs folks how many times a

day??... guesses my 277 pound self to be somewhere around 150???

Did I have scrawny bones after being hyper for twenty years at that time?

Yep.. I was a lot of muscle... a low percentage of body fat.. but the

rest of that density was bone....

crap... that all said.. something else just hit me..... what I had was

hyper that was caused by increase of thyroid out put due to a genetic

defect that gave me trashed TSH receptors.... well, hold it.. that still

fits.. just because my thyroid didn't sense low TSH didn't mean my hyper

did not result in low TSH... the pituitary was okay with the signals..

the thyroid just could not get the signals.

So yeah.. hyper started at about puberty (based on my eating habits and

size) and continued increasing until I stormed in the late 80's..... I

have still have seriously tough bones... But I did have crappy teeth...

Don't know if that helps.. but keep looking, prove her wrong!

Now that I am finished laughing, here is some info:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?

cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=7787427 & dopt=Abstract

http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/82/9/2931

http://www.mythyroid.com/osteoporosis.htm

Also, remind your NP that low TSH in HYPERTHYROID patients can

result in bone loss. But in a patient who is HYPO and has a low TSH

due to treatment, the low TSH has NOTHING to do with being hyper. It

has to do with having correct treatment.
