This area is where I used to get pain (central, not URQ), before I was

diagnosed. It went away after a couple of hours except for the last time,

when I was admitted and diagnosed via ERCP, etc. I was OK for another year,

then another attack. That time, they dilated my CBD and installed a stent.

It's been a year since that one (knock on wood).

I suspect it was bile sludge that blocked the narrowed CBD, then passed

through, at least until the CBD got too narrow.

.... About four in the morning I started to get a pain in my chest... felt a

little like pleurisy. Anyhow I figured it would go away pretty soon, but by

about 9:00 in the morning it was much worse, and I was running a bit of a

fever. Now it was more of a burning pain, and felt more like it might be

coming from my esophagus, like heartburn.

What you have described is very much like what I felt when I was diagnosed

with the fungal blockage in a duct in my liver, except that I also had back

pain (midline across the whole back). I had crushing chest pain that felt

like a major reflux episode and was actually treated for that twice in the ER

until we discovered the fungal " balls " during a PTC. The hypothesis was

that, because I was being treated with sulfa continually for the infection

seeded by the ERCP, it allowed the overgrowth of the fungus. I don't believe

that you are on antibiotics all the time, are you?

If you have any questions, write back and I'll watch for your message today.

, just remember, 'just because we have PSC

does not mean we cannot have other organs go haywire

on us' Just like PSC is different in everybody, so is

symptoms relating to the heart. Oh sure, there is the

classic, numb arm, tingling, tightness in the chest,

shortness of breath, and nausea...but, a heart attack

can also come silently. Folks with PSC should still

be check for other liver problems because they aren't

prone from them just because they have one dx...same

goes for any other problem in the body.

Hi Jonathon,

In our dealings with later stage PSC, my husband got what they

called varacies forming up his esophogas. From what I understood

they are like large blood vessles growing inside his esophagas. He

had terrible heartburn. Once these varacies were diagnosed, they no

longer did any procedure that involved placing any type of scope down

his throat for fear of one of these varcaies reputuring. In which he

would have much internal bleeding. Not a good thing!! Check it out

with your doctor. Good luck and God bless.

Sincerely,

I'm not on them all the time but earlier in the week I was on a course

of Cipro for a supsected cholagitis attack. ( I kind of think that one

was a false alarm, cause my daughter came down with similar symptoms,

but less severe a day or two later...). I actually did think aout your

fungal blockage and wonder if I could be having something similar going

on. If it comes back I'll probably try to get in and get it checked out

early in the course rather than when I'm already feeling better...

I do have varices, and that's one of the things I was concerned about...

In fact my doctor had just done a procedure to check on them a couple

weeks ago, and said they looked OK. I'll discuss it with him at my next

appointment...

Phil has been having pain on his left side. Haven't I

heard some people here talk of this? What causes

that. He is also having acid reflux because he

stopped his tagament. He says he can't take that with

the folic acid. Can anyone give me a good schedule

for his taking of his pills. He is taking 6 actigall

a day, milk thistle, vitimin E, liquid multivitamins,

folic acid and now needs the tagament again.

He is also fighting a bad cold/hacky cough and we

think he has conjuctivitis. Isn't this fun!!! I knew

all his traveling and pushing himself would catch up

with him sooner or later. He has an appointment with

the doctor later this morning and couldn't get into

his regular internist, I hate that. I'll be glad when

he has his colonoscopy and EDG the 24th and we can

know that everything is alright in those areas.

I found a real good way to clean out, too bad I didn't

have a colonoscopy on Friday. Thursday I bought a

little bag of sugar free chocolates with caramel

center. Pig as I am I ate the whole thing (there was

supposedly 3 servings in the bag. I was running to

the bathroom all afternoon and fortunately made it

home (30-45 minute drive) before starting my whole

evening round of running. Well have to say it's a

tasty way of doing it but I sure paid the price.

After several trips to the bathroom I read the package

and in small print it said, over indulgence can cause

a laxative effect - NO KIDDING!!! It is made by

Stover. Beware.

I was just going to say that the "sugar-free" part of the candy is probably

what caused you to "clean-out!" When I had c-diff. the GI Dr.

kept asking me if I chewed a lot of sugarless gum or ate or drank sugar-free

stuff . I went in for a "consult" with him and it turned into an

impromptu sigmoid the an impromptu full colonoscopy!!!!( I would not recomend

that!! My husband still does not believe it since he needs the pre-treatment

valium, I do have a letter from the Dr. stating the treatment that was

done for proof!) Usually you have to do the nulytelly drink or something

before because they want to be able to see everything. I was extremely

cleaned out so he was convinced it wasn't the c.diff. but something in

my diet.I had been following a naturopathic diet so I new it was the c.diff.

and not fake sugar. I had never known that so I found it very interesting!!

Peg,

My mom has pain on her left side because her spleen is enlarged. I have

chronic pain on the left, because I have chronic pancreatitis. His pain is

certainly worth checking into.

Hi,

Many diabetic foods contain an artificial sweetener that has a powerful laxative effect if one overindulges. Perhaps the hosps should give us bags of sweets before our colonoscopies, sounds a nicer way of 'clearing out' than the usual regimen. :~))
