Guest guest
Melatonin is naturally produced (in a healthy body) later in the day as we get ready for sleep. It's something that we produce less of as we age. Folks that are morning people are usually good producers of melatonin.. proved by their falling asleep easier and waking in the morning ready to go... folks that have trouble getting to bed, night owls, are usually the ones that are not producing melatonin well...... or are fighting other issues such as adrenal fatigue where they get adrenaline dumps late in the day and then have to burn off that excess before they are able to relax and sleep. Since getting the thyroid meds correct and adding the adrenal support I'm back to falling asleep easily, sleeping deeper and waking on my own about the same time every morning and feeling good. During this recent hyper phase that I went through when I increased my thyroid too much, I went back into the insomnia.... but that is all past now... and I'm back to sleeping well.... It's just so wonderful to go to sleep and wake up feeling good.... after so many years of dreading sleep because I always woke up so stiff and sore and miserable... there were nights that I didn't want to go to bed at all because of knowing how awful I'd feel in the morning. If you want to try Melatonin and see if it will help you sleep... you take it about 30 minutes before it's time for you to go to bed.... then crawl in and get comfy... read a book, daydream, something that is not too stimulating, like don't watch tv.... Listening to soft music is nice. And just let your body mellow out and drift off..... I've also been reading lately that gentle stretching and relaxation stuff just before bed is supposed to be really good. It relaxes and oxygenates the muscles and organs before sleep.... Considering that I've been doing stretches and relaxation type stuff since I started 'exercising' last April Fool's I'd have to agree that it sure does seem to help get a better sleep. If you are running around like and idiot and sucking down caffeine and then pop a couple, crawl in bed and turn on the tv.. it probably isn't going to work so well. Guest guest
I guess I'm one of those who don't produce melatonin well...I work 2nd shift because it suits my body clock better. I am not a morning person at all...my company tried to make me one for over 20 years and now I am happily on 2nd shift. I guess that's why taking melatonin before sleep helps me so much...thank you for the explanation Topper!!
