Guest guest
Still catching up on email after being gone for the holidays... My endo said that in a person with a healthy thyroid response, melatonin (made by your body) released by one's body during sleep causes the T4 to be converted to T3 and it peaks early in the morning to wake one up. It's important to get some natural light early in the morning so the body will be triggered to make melatonin to release during sleep. I supplement 1mg of Melatonin with my bedtime dose of Armour (sublingually) and I think so far it helps. I wake up more refreshed and my temp has come up 1 full degree in the past 4 months... Guest guest
Interesting... I did a lot of melatonin the years that I was on synthetics in order to sleep... it would help me to fall asleep, but I'd still wake during the night and did not get restorative sleep.... what ever I'm doing now has my sleep rhythm in a really good state. I went through the hyper phase recently (got too much meds into me and my system reactive with a pretty distinct hyperactive state) and it through off my sleep... the last couple of night have been great. In fact I just moved a spare tv back into my bedroom while the folks were gone (I had the time and ambition to clean out the closet where I'd stashed it) and I was tired enough last night where I headed off to bed at 9 instead of 10. I did my stretches and exercises while I watched Law and Order SVU and then when to sleep right after, so an hour early.... woke up at 6:10 this morning (a good hour before sunrise, no alarm) and feeling pretty darn good! Guest guest
I have heard many cross things about Melatonin, that thyroid people shouldn't take it. Now you guys say it is good. Hmmm! I've heard it's good, but my holistic doc told me that if you have no trouble sleeping, generally you are making enough of it on your own. he did prescribe it for one of my sons who did not sleep well...but he didn't like it for some reason. I know it's supposedly good for other things besides sleep - anti-cancer was it?? But I do not think I would try it unless I had trouble sleeping. Guest guest
That was why I added it at night. I was waking during the night and having trouble getting back to sleep. My endo offered to have a nighttime dose of Armour compounded with melatonin for me, but it's just as easy to take 1 tablet at bedtime.
