Guest guest Posted November 21, 2006 Report Share Posted November 21, 2006 COMMUNICATION MANAGER, POPULATION SERVICES INTERNATIONAL BACKGROUND Population Services International (PSI) is a non-profit, Indian Society which began operations in 1988. It is affiliated with PSI in Washington, DC which has similar connection to organizations in 60 different countries. PSI is dedicated to the improvement of public health through promotion of products, services and information which empower people to protect them selves from preventable diseases. PSI currently operates in 10 states with a full-time and contract staff of 1700 persons. We are beginning a new project ( " CONNECT " ) to enhance the public-private sector partnerships in HIVAIDS and TB. The project will focus on Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and 6 port cities of the country where PSI has led a successful HIV prevention project over the past five years. Successful implementation of the project will require engagement with industry to encourage uptake of good workplace policies and practices in support of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support. Further, establishing widespread linkages with similar efforts in India and overseas, sharing lessons learnt and building capacities of other organizations are key deliverables of this project. POSITION PURPOSE An exciting opportunity to work with members of the OPL CO team that developed many innovative on-ground communication interventions under the new project entitled CONNECT. This opening provides an opportunity to be at the very start of this new project thereby allowing for significant exposure, flexibility and learning. RESPONSIBILITIES * Work closely with other CONNECT CO and field staff in identifying key messages to be focused on. * Lead the overall design and implementation of appropriate on-ground communication interventions across port towns and in Karnataka. * Develop a unique and innovative BCC model to reach at-risk informal and formal work-forces. * Lead the selection of required mid-media, training and creative agencies required. * Brief agencies as per approved scope of work and oversee execution of contracted activities, including Development of training curriculum. Scheduling, organizing and execution of training for outreach workers and street theatre troupes/event organizers. Developing and adapting street theatre/event scripts. Developing and adapting leaflets, posters. *Develop and/or adapt localized communication material and coordinate production, storage and dispatch of these materials to field teams. * Organize and lead a team of out-reach workers both from within PSI and those of other NGOs in efficient and effective deployment of on-ground communication activities. * Utilize findings from M & E studies and field input to improve operations. * Provide technical support to other organizations as needed. MUST HAVES * At least 5-7 years of ground level communications/out-reach/promotions/agency experience * Strong understanding of BCC models and ground level execution process * Leadership and ability to work in a collegial team environment * Knowledge of health communication, with specific focus on STD/HIV AIDS communication PREFERABLE * Prior experience in advertising. QUALIFICATIONS * Post-graduate degree in mass communication preferred.
