Guest guest
I guess I'm not understanding your question. If he has problems with simple carbs, why list all those? Why not find bars that have dates or raisins as sweetener with whole grains/nuts/seeds? Will he consider homemade granola type bars? Could even use bean flours, stevia for sweetener, etc. Does he need a 'sweet " bar? What about snacks that aren't sweet? Bean based. Whole grain based. nut based? Soy based? Or, bars specifically designed to be low-glycemic (caution, some contain gums and ingredients that can cause GI upset). I don't eat these products so I don't have personal perspective to draw from. Guest guest
He is an executive who travels. I have him aiming for 40-50 gm carbs 30-40 gm pro and 10-15 gm fat per meal. When he has access to a kitchen he does well. We have determined practical foods/menus. When he is traveling he likes to have higher pro 20-40gm pro bar options. He tried a Zone Bar this week. Ate it, and was " set off " on a carb craving couple of hours post bar. He asked why? We looked. First ingredient was corn syrup. Unbelievable. I know we can find him a better bar when he needs to stabilize his blood sugar and obtain some mixed fuel to keep him satisfied. Other choices we came up with.... Glucerna bar Medifast bar I am sure there are others. A few have been recommended thus far by other RDs. I would love to know more about the beam flours you mentioned. He needs these bars to reduce temptation and to manage his intake while in a pinch. He knows he could open a can of tuna, have turkey jerky, nuts and seeds, etc. Again he just wants choices as he learns how to eat sensibly. Guest guest
For the nutrient profile you outlined a Detour or Supreme carb control would work. I pick one of them up and an apple and am good for hours in an airport!
