Hi Everyone....

I have a student who, after learning how to calculate kcal needs, asked about

additional kcals needed if someone is a smoker and/or uses a lot of caffeinated

products. Is there a " factor " to add in for these? I know that for instance,

the Vitamin C requirement for smokers is higher than for the general population,

but he is a smoker/caffeine user who has always had trouble keeping weight on

when consuming the amount of kcals determined by the Benedict equation.

I highly doubt undiagnosed cancer or something like that (he is 31) since he

eats very well, etc. Any thoughts or research you can point me to? Thanks so

much and have a great weekend!
