Sometimes psychiatrists are better than neurologists re this type of medication.

At some point in my son's life he took risperdal and no side effect.

However, another medication known to produce ticks was prescribed and the doctor was very specific that he had to take benadryl at the same time to reduce the risks. He never got them. I did only give him half of the suggested benadryl dosage, because if he took full amount he would get too hyper.

Please check with your doctor if benadryl would help.

Good luck

My son took risperdal and we just had to stop given it to him because a side effect, he develop tardive diskinesia (very bad tics on his face) and now we are trying anything and the tics are not changing, he has it all the time. He has major behavior issues and without the risperdal gets very hiper too. We see Dr. Torocsik at the DM and I understand you are looking for someone outside the DM but also we take him to Dr. Hoffman and he is great helping him in trying to control his behavior and great with in teaching us how to deal with the behaviors.

I have seen a Dr. Sara Dorison in Miami...very impressive and she listened to me...however she does not take insurance, her office will send it in for you and you pay and then get reinmbursed by your company for whatever allowable amount they designate,,,she is worth the drive,

My son goes to the Neurologist at Dan Marino

Center and I called to

get a second opinion with another neurologist and the nurse said they all work

together and if I choose another Dr in the same office, the second Dr will give

the same medication that the previous gave him.. huh?? So she’s

telling me that all 6 Dr’s that are working in the same Hospital

with different levels of Autism will give the same medication to every

one? Does that makes sense?
