At least the " Christian " Holy Bible, when read objectively, is actually

quite entertaining especially the book of Revelations (!!). Wow, is that

ever one freaky tale! The stupid Big Book doesn't even have any

entertainment value. I should just take all of that crap and have a massive

book burning...all my Big Books, 12X12, Hazleton Crapola, etc. YUK!

Hazelton, I am sure, loves all of this, and is laughing all the way to the

bank. Some 'wacko' terrorist should bomb that joint off of the face of the

map of Minnesota.

Trixxi: Main entertainment value in Big Book is laughing at the hokey

prose. Especially the stilted and outdated dialogue. There were writers

around at that time whose prose still sounds quite modern (why couldn't

AA have been founded by Hemingway, Fitzgerald or Henry ?). Big

Book reads like a mediocre article from the 1939 Readers Digest. The

good thing is this may accelerate the unraveling of AA. The hardliners

won't allow anyone to change a word in the Big Book, and in a few years

it's going to be as impenetrable to the average reader (or non-reader)

as the King Bible.

Let's see, there's also a reference in one of the prefaces to " eminent

theologian Dr. Harry (middle name deleted to enhance humorous effect)

Fosdick. " The personal stories section includes the alleged testimony

of an Indian guy who speaks just like Tonto. It probably was God's will

that the section dealing with sex begins on page 69 -- certainly makes

it easier for me to understand.

In the Bible, the best reading that Christians don't want you to read

is in the Book of Judges. Lots of gore worthy of a Tarantino movie.

Especially enlightening is the story of Jephthah, an Israelite hero who

has to sacrifice his own daughter to fulfill a promise to God. By the

way, in the New Testament Jesus specifically mentions Jephthah as one

of the great leaders of the old days, settling once and for all the

question of whether the Bible endorses human sacrifice.
