Discovery of large fibroid

Hello,

I'm new to this group.

Would you believe I just found out I have a huge fibroid that I didn't know

about? I've been to several doctor's complaining about my extended and tender

abdomen, and other symptoms related to the fibroid. Unfortunately, because I

also have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome the symptoms were blamed on

that. One doctor said I had irritable bladder, while another said I had candida

and wanted to give me anti-depressants (even though I'm not depressed). I've

been to other doc's as well, yet no-one sent me for an ultrasound.

After I landed in an emergency room because I couldn't pee, I was sent for an

ultrasound. That is when I found out that I've been carrying around a whopping

14.8 x 9.6 x 11 centimetre fibroid ( 5 3/4 x 3 3/4 x 4 1/4 inches).

This was quite a shock, obviously if I had found out when it was smaller I would

have had more options.

Needless to say, it's frightening - especially since I don't have a lot of time

to make a decision. I've been thrown into a situation where my options seem to

be quite extreme.

Yesterday, I had a consult with a surgeon who said he would attemp a myomectomy

but does not know if he can save the uterus - yikes! I will see other surgeons

for their opinions, but am concerned about time. BTW, the ultrasound makes it

look like it's one big fibroid, the the surgeon said he won't know for sure

until he gets in there. I will also have a consult about UAE but that only

reduces a fibroid to half size, which would still leave me with something big.

So, here are my questions - I'd really appreciate some feedback on your

experiences.

1) Can anyone tell me if they've had anything this big or bigger removed

successfully while leaving the uterus intact?

2) How quickly do these things grow? Is a few months too long to wait? (I'm

aware the longer it's left the harder it will be)

Thanks,

Elyse
