Thanks for the respoonse I am sure anxious to hear the answer on

availability. I had a lung capacity test today and after less than 3 months

there has been some drop in capacity.

Sorry, I hit the wrong button the first time I tried to reply.

I started

amiodarone in early May and had baseline blood work and a pulmonary test. I

had a second pulmonary test about 3 weeks ago and they found something they

didn't like but said it was not related to the amio. My lung capacity was

down but still in the normal range so the time to quit may be now. I will see

my PCP this friday and hear why they are concerned. I understand amio can

make an unrelated lung problem worse. I also have a sensitivity to the sun. I

use SPF 45 sun block but the sun still stings my arms. I am a bicyclist so

get several hours exposure at a time but don't want to give up the bike.

good luch when you check out the lung problem, hope it is nothing serious. the

sun-which i love-is the one drawback of amio. i love to walk and play golf but

sometimes the lathering up of my body parts with sunscreen takes me right out

of the mood. but, small price to pay for the peace of mind one gets from the

respite of a-fib. max

Hi Dorthy I have been watching your progress and I like what I see,

Yes I agree for patients with AF and Lung problems I do not feel that Amiodarone

My only experience with Amiodarone is overhearing a couple of doctors speaking

outside of my hospital room - saying that they would definitely not consider

putting me on Amiodarone, because of the many side effects. Because of this

statement, and because of what this drug has done to C., I don't think

kindly of it at all.............

If you are OK with this drug - then OK! But, If you have any doubts at all,

talk to C.........

Dear Dorothy,

Thyroid problems are a known side effect of amio, which is why the

guidelines recommend everyone get a baseline thyroid panel done before

amio and follow up tests every 6 months thereafter.

It is a very common occurance and usually one of the first organ

problems you have (sun senstitivity is the first side effect, usually).

Hi Guys,

this is quite usual for this drug. I was informed that in 20 years of practice

my EP had only seen three people with problems of the thyroid due to Amiodarone

and I was one of them. Well I have seen more in five years just on this board.

This is common and can take up to a year to get it right... Its a long and slow

process, I lost my Thyroid and its not funny and now the AF have been treated by

a PVA I am left with feeling pretty rough but I am getting there...

I would suggest that anybody taking Amiodarone should have regular check ups for

thyroid troubles. Keep an Eye if you lose weight , drink a lot , or get trembles

in the hands but to be hones if you get this far it too late.. You Thyroid is

out of Whack..

My advice would be any body on this drug for longer than a Year then ask to go

on Dofetilde...

Take care
