Guest guest
While the test results are not so good, it does send you a strong warning. Lay off those carbohydrates. Running A1C's close to those of a non-diabetic as possible can hault further kidney deterioration and in many cases reverse the problem. It is essential for you to definitely have A1C readings less than 5.5 or lower. The normal range for a non-diabetic is an A1C range of 4.2-5.2. Remember if the food is white, it is poison for the diabetic. Definitely do not eat refined carbohydrates of any kind, and if you do, be sure it is very few and sparingly. very scared - kidney tests are back ... > > Hello Everyone, > > I am very scared. Guest guest
Jeff, It means your kidneys are putting out more protein than is normal. the absolute best thing for you to do is see a nephrologists and endocrinologist if you are not already seeing one. the best way to get that under better control is to keep your A1C as low as possible. " normal " people have an A1C of 4.2-5.5 and yes, it is possible for diabetics to get that. I belong to another diabetic list : blind-diabetic-subscribe . We have been able to get many of the people on that list to get A1C that are in that range just by limiting the amount of carbs they eat per meal. the ranges you have are not terrible, but are a good warning sign that you need to get that A1C down and keep it down. If you want to contact me, my private E-mail is: plawolf@.... don't panic! I have been diabetic since less than 2 years old and because I kept my sugars down, am still not on dialysis. And I am a whole lot older than you!) very scared - kidney tests are back ... Hello Everyone, I am very scared. I got my tests back: 5.0 for albumin level (norm is 3 to 4.9). The nurse said this one was not so bad. 24 hour urine test: Normal is anything below 138. I had 237. Can someone please help me understand what this means? Do I have stage 1 kidney problems? Can this be treated? I am not on any kidney medications as of yet. I have been type 2 now for a little over a year. Jeff

Guest guest
Jeff, You need to ask the doctor that. The test results are not that bad, but you will need to get more information from your doc and definately ask him about an ACEinhibitor. Re: very scared - kidney tests are back ... Guest guest
you want blood work done. the 24 hour urine test is a pretty old method of testing kidney function. You need to get a creatinine level and BUN level drawn in your blood and tested. Those levels are what most modern kidney docs test and track for kidney function. Heck, I'm 32 and the last urine test I had like that was when I was 16 just to give you an idea. Regards, very scared - kidney tests are back ... Hello Everyone, I am very scared. Guest guest
what was your last a1c Jeff? It should be, as harry is suggesting, as close to 5.0 as possible. With your a1c as close to 5.0 as possible, it states to your body that you don't have sugar in it to ruine the kidneys. Folks, this may be a prime example of a doctor telling Jeff an a1c of 6.0 is fine. Not the case for his kidneys. Guest guest
this is true. Jeff I am 32 and have been diabetic since age 5. Keeping my a1c around 5.3 is prolonging my kidney function and I have not needed dialysis so don't worry about it. You are getting signs to shape up so shape up and you'll be ok. *grin* I.E carb count and keep your 2 hour post meal test 120 or less. This guarantees and a1c of 5.0 to 5.3 You are not going to lose your kidneys over night, if ever, if you do what pat and others are suggesting here. Regards, very scared - kidney tests are back ... Guest guest
jeff. our main goal as a diabetic, as you know, is prevention and preventing onset of complications. I have been on an ACE inhibitor since age 16 called vasotec which has worked fine for years. my creatine has been 1.6 to 1.8, a rare 1.9, since age 16. I would recommend to consider getting on one and talk it over with your doc. they can only help prevent complications IMO. Guest guest
no, they are really good levels. Actually normal. Also, don't exercise 3 days prior to your blood being drawn for creatinine and bun. Exercising can cause an increase in those levels. Also, drink good amounts of water since if you drink pop/coffee and so on it can dehydrate you and dehydration increases those levels too. I am referring to the creatinine and BUN levels.
