Guest guest
: My support coordinator called me back this afternoon. She asked which office the call had come from. Apparently the Sheridan office is not/has not handled autism cases that much, mostly straight medicaid. She was going to file some papers for Virgilio today at the Commercial Blvd. office. Will let you know when I hear from her again. Please note that my principal my email address is ymvaldivieso@....Thank you,YesminPlanning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides. Guest guest
Yesmin, I was told the same thing..not by DCF, but by my former support coordinator. She told me that if we no longer qualified for SSI, our medwaiver would end as well. I thought she was crazy... -----Original Message-----From: sList [mailto:sList ]On Behalf Of vegacpa@...Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2008 10:02 AMTo: sList Subject: Prado - Medicaid waiver Hi: I just received a very disturbing call from Chidren's and Families. I was just told that if my son does not qualify for SSI, he does not qualify for medicaid waiver. I always understood that that was the reason for the medicaid waiver. That it would be my son's circumstances and his disability which would qualify him. Could someone please explain? : if you read this email, could you please give me a call at ? Thank you Yesmin Valdivieso Virgilio's mom Please note that my principal my email address is ymvaldiviesogmail.Thank you,Yesmin Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Guest guest
There is more than one way to qualify for medicaid benenfits. If you qualify for SSI, you are eligible for medicaid based on the disability determination, once you have the eligibility then you must meet financial requirements to get "regular" medicaid. This is through SSI for the cash payment and through DCF for the application to medicaid (which is really run by AHCA but DCF administers and does eligibility for the program) You can qualify for Medicaid if you meet certain financial requirements and have no disability. This is done through the ACCESS Florida program at DCF which administers the "regular" medicaid program in addition to food stamps and cash benefits to families in need. If you are a client of APD and have been accepted on the "medicaid waiver program", your child becomes eligible for medcaid waiver based on a specific disability eligiblity and the fact that your child is considered a household of one, thus knocking out the financial qualification component for almost all of our children. Children with large settlements or inheritances would need to see a lawyer and do planning through a medicaid special needs trust to get medicaid. Although the programs are all medicaid there are various ways to get access to Medicaid and there is more than one Medicaid Waiver Program. APD's waiver is only one of them.. You may have some difficulty switching the path to access Medicaid but hopefully someone at APD and your coordinator can assist if you already on the Medicaid waiver program and will no longer be using your SSI Medicaid. It is a bit confusing but I hope this helps. I am familar with the programs and will try and answer any questions.... -------------- Original message from " Karp" : -------------- Yesmin, I was told the same thing..not by DCF, but by my former support coordinator.
