Guest guest Posted November 17, 2006 Report Share Posted November 17, 2006 Maharashtra Police to spread AIDS awareness Mumbai, Nov 15: Maharashtra Police has joined hands with an NGO to undertake HIV-AIDS awareness and prevention campaigns in remote districts of the state. This was decided at an international convention on " Worldwide advances in comprehensive management of HIV/AIDS: implications for India " by Inspector General of Police Javed Ahmed and Nafisa Khorakiwala, a trustee of the NGO Wockhardt- Harvard Medical International AIDS Research Foundation WHARF, which is engaged in training healthcare workers in HIV-AIDS issues, launched the latest module of its training programme at the conference to equip care providers with current knowledge and skills and make them aware of issues that are of critical importance to clinical practice in India, Khorakiwala said. Commenting on the fact that Maharashtra stands sixth in India in the prevalence of HIV, Governor S M Krishna said, " The need of the hour is to bridge the gap between scientific research and training consultants.
