Of course she didn't. > What are they TEACHING them in 5th grade? You need the hep B vaccine > because hepatitis B can be transmitted as a venerial disease. .... | My son was born march '91 I cannot find any record of Hep-B...does | anyone know where I can find info on when they first started these | vaccines? .... Hep B at birth was begun some time after November 22, 1991. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/ind91_rr.html Here is an index to 1991 CDC reports. The report titled " Hepatitis B Virus: A Comprehensive Strategy for Eliminating Transmission in the United States Through Universal Childhood Vaccination: Recommendations of the Immunization Practices Advisory Committee (ACIP) " is dated November 22, 1991. I take this to mean that Hep B at birth was begun some time after that. This is the report: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00033405.htm I got the stats on the LD services at my daughter's school. Last year 13 kids were getting 5th grade LD/BD services. Next year, the kids born from Aug. 91 to Aug. 92, there are 18 or 19 kids getting services. Same evaluation team. The LD teacher told me that the district was going to discuss this increase, with the assumption that they were identifying too many kids. I told her that every school district in America ought to be screaming their heads off for more $ instead. The IDs aren't bogus. The LD teacher said 1 or 2 of the 18 or 19 kids were iffy - the evals were done at parent request rather than teacher request - but the others had real needs. I would expect the number of 5th graders needing services would go up next year, too, unless they change their evaluation criteria, since not every kid born in next year's 5th grade cohort was immunized at birth with Hep B.
