Aliceanne, Sorry I have no idea what ametazole is, but I am sure that your

patient was started on omeprazole (brand name Prilosec) for the possible peptic

ulcer disease. Margaret

>>> Alice A Sawyer 06/26/01 06:08PM >>>

Found this one in Drakes but no indications. Not in MPR??? Anyone know

what it is for? Patient was started on it at admission for possible

peptic ulcer disease????

Thanks.

Saunders list it as Betazol also...But omeprazole would be very possible.

I just wish I could figure out what Ametazole is. It sounds more like

that but then this doctor is screaming into a mike that she is holding,

probably in her mouth.

Okay, sometimes you just insist that I pull out the big Dorland's dictionary

don't you (haha). Anyway, I found betazole hydrochloride in Dorland's, it is am

isomer of histamine that stimulates gastric secretion of hydrochloric acid;

formerly used IM or subq in tests of gastric secretion. So, it would be given

to check for acid production, which would be done if they suspected acid peptic

disease. So it would not be given for peptic ulcer disease and omeprazole would

be correct. Margaret

PS I just hate it when those docs try to swallow the mike or yell into it. It

just really distorts what they are saying, so I do sympathize, MG

THANK YOU, I SURE FEEL BETTER TO KNOW I AM NOT ALONE WITH THESE DOCTORS.

I know it gets better as you hear the doctors, but I have yet to get the

same doc twice. I am about to tear my hair out. I am up to page 5 and

there are so many pauses. My poor mother is probably starving.

Again, thanks.

Aliceanne, Another thing I hate is when these docs have to go over everything in

the discharge summary. I get really annoyed when they talk for over 4 pages, I

think that should be the limit, or maybe even 3 pages. The ones I really don't

like are our rehab PAs who will dictate the HPI pretty much straight from the

H & P and then state, for further information regarding the admission, please see

the H & P. I sit there and yell at them, " Why, you just dictated all of it? " Oh

well, go feed mom and then come back and finish it. Hope she is doing better.

Prilosec is correct. It is repeated in discharge summary. However

accupril really still sounds like acinopril? or Synopril ????????

Aliceanne, I just got it, how about lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor. Don't know

why I didn't think about the doc leaving off the first letter. See if that
