Guest guest
Your probably right there CY, and being that I have 75% Scots blood in me, I somehow don't think the Scots worry to much when they have consumed a bottle of a good single malt Whisky over Hogmanay night. The Scots in Scotland, tend to celebrate new years eve and new years day, more than Christmas. It is tradition when the Scots celebrate hogmanay, at the stroke of midnight, they do, what they call, first footing! Which is, when neighbours call on each other at there front doors with a lump of Cole and a bottle of whisky, walking through the house of their neighbour, offering them a dram of whisky, and then walk out the back door. . If any of you are thinking of asking me the significance of the Cole, don't bother, because I don't know! However, I should explain, a dram is a small measure of whisky! Guest guest
Hi , A long, long, long time ago when I was a wee lad I do remember someone bringing over a very heavy fruit cake topped with some fort of sweet sauce. It was real strong with alcohol and I didn't care for it either. Thanks and have a great Christmas.... We are going to have lots of ham and turkey to eat.. Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli, cauliflower and green beans. Of course we will have pecan pie but I will eat Crystal's share so and Harry will not have to worry... Cy, the Ancient Okie... Re: christmas greetings sy, christmas pudding is so rich. it like a dark fruit cake even richer topped with a rum flavoured sauce which is so rich. i never cared for it even when i was young and before diabetes. i could never understand whey we were expected to stuff ourselves and follow it with a three month diet to get back to our normal size, smile. talk about a major pig out. then we always had christmas cookies and egg nog. my tummy hurts at just the thought of all this food. karen from canada christmas greetings > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > I would like to take this opportunity in wishing you all a merry > > > Christmas. > > > > > > Being my wife is from the States, we are leaving England on > > > Wednesday, to spend Christmas in Ohio, with friends of ours. Guest guest
, You know, sometimes I would just as soon bypass many of the holidays. While it is my wife who is the Diabetic I am an alcoholic. I have not partaken of alcohol for the past 14 years, just as I have not smoked since about that time as well. The urge to sit down with friends and have " just a little social drink " becomes a much greater temptation especially Christmas and New Year's Eve. Crystal keeps me honest and I keep her semi honest. The very best of luck to all of you over the Season Carbohydrate! Cy, the Ancient Okie... Guest guest
The first few years were hard. The temptation was just real strong. I find that I can be around alcohol and it does not attract me at all. Same with smoking. I used to have a real bad time of it when I smelled someone smoking but now the smell of cigaretts is offensive. Now, I have to confess, the smell of a nice pipe still lures me. Ah, for that Middleton cherry Blend... Oh well, backto reality... Cy, the Ancient Okie... Guest guest
Yes, we just got back from Vegas and the smoke there really messed up my sinuses and nose. I smoked years and years ago, but can't stand to be around it at all anymore. Even the " no smoking " areas still smell like smoke as it seems to creap everywhere! Just about all of those reservations are the modern day equivalent of indians scalping white men, who are foolish enough to tread their territory. christmas greetings >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > Hi All, >> > > > >> > > > I would like to take this opportunity in wishing you all a >> > > > merry > >> > > > Christmas. >> > > > >> > > > Being my wife is from the States, we are leaving England on >> > > > Wednesday, to spend Christmas in Ohio, with friends of ours. >> > > > So, > >> > > > I will need to train our hosts not to give me the wrong foods, >> > > > being that the fair you eat on Christmas day, is a lot >> > > > different > >> > > > to what we have over here in the UK. Guest guest
Well the casino thing is fairly new here. Oklahoma just leagalized several additional forms of gambling and struck some sort of deal with the various Indian Tribes here to share in the wealth. The Cherokee Nation has just completed a massive casino on the east edge of Tulsa. I have not been there yet but I understand it is quite the place. AS I hear, they have a prime rib dinner for something like $3.95. Sure sounds like what Las Vegas used to do. They also have a large hotel as part of the complex. The Creek Nation has at least one casino in the south part of Tulsa and I believe the Osage just completed their new casino in Sand Springs, a suburb of West Tulsa. AS time passes I think we will see more and more of these casinos and most of them are going to be enormous. AS I said, " Come on down, just bring your money and we will fix you up. " I'll bet you could even get a low carb meal there! Cy, the Ancient Okie...
