Guest guest
hi tom thanks for your reply. I was told i had sacrum bit out of alignment. that is why she sent me to chiropractor. arent physios more for the muscles? Anyway, i had MRI done 2 weeks ago and everything looked fine apart from a 1cm cyst on S1. They want me to go back so they can have a look at it again. do you think it could cause something like vulvar, pelvic or back pain? my chorop. thinks it is nothing. I suppose i will find out this thursday. they called it something like Tyrov cyst rather. what is non-manipulative way of therapy? who does that? Guest guest
But is the sacrum is out of place, the muscles need to be strengthened to keep it in place. So while a chiropracter could get a bone back in place, it'll keep moving out of place until the muscles are strong enough to deal with it. (That's happened to me, all the work the PT did to adjust the pelvis and tailbone helped, but wouldn't stay fixed until we found the right strengthening exercises to add.) I'm proud to say that my sacroilliac joint has remained mobile and not sticking for the past two and a half weeks! :-) > hi tom > > thanks for your reply. Guest guest
Hi Anja, A sacral asymmetry can indicate piriformis problems or the piriformis problems can cause sacral asymmetries. It one of those age old problems... " which came first, the chicken or the egg. " " Physios " as they are called down under may have skills in the manual therapies depending on where they graduated from, what extra course work they took. These non-manipulative manual therapies are in my opinion much better, safer and much more effective than the manipulations. They are tougher to learn and tougher to find people who do them with respectable results. Two of the main techniques are called Muscle Energy and Counterstrain. Start calling clinics and ask if they have anyone who is EXPERT in them. If the piriformis is in dysfucntion it may compress the nerve that goes down the back of the leg and also the pudendal nerve. That can cause pain and dysfucntion. TKOPT www.tomocklerpt.com Anja Risovic wrote: > hi tom > > thanks for your reply. Guest guest
!!! You betcha!!! Great imput!! The PT should always give stabilzation exercises after the scaral dysfunction has been corrected. Using the non-manipulative techniques uses the muscles and nervous system to draw the bone into position and since you didn't use force ( manipulation) to get it into a better allignment it has a tendencey to stay in place better! Guest guest
tom i actually only found one lady who does muscle energy but not counterstrain. what do you think if my physio is doing the right thing or not? Guest guest
me again i want to ask a question in regards to any nerve injury. if one has nerve involvement in this whole mess(vulvar pain) would that nerve(intrapment, injured, or misinterpratation of normal impulses) with the time cause any changes on the vulvar skin. And why? also, if there is any nerve involvement would that cause constant pain or come and go pain. for example: i have constant vulvar pain but pelvic pain comes and goes. how does this relate to sacrum disalignment, muscle problem or nerve (compresion, injury, missinterpretation of normal impulses)? What is EMG of pelvis? thanks Anja
Guest guest
Anja, Muslce Energy is a great technique and frequently, it is all that I need to correct the problem...give it a shot!! Guest guest
Hi Me Again, The pelvic pain that comes and goes may be pain from the dysfucntional muscle and that tends to come and go. The vulvar pain, if it is due to nerve compression, will tend to be constant. Skin changes are more likely due to biochemical factors. Guest guest
thanks tom what kind of factors are biochemical factors? What is Emg of pelvis? with my vulvar pain i can have good and bad days but it never went away completely, or it can be constant with no change for months and years. Is that likely to be caused by a nerve compression? after 6 years of pain i started getting changes on my vulvar skin. Anja
Guest guest
HI Anja, The biochemical factors are like inflamations, infections, chemical reactions, fluctiations in hormones, changes from decreased blood supply etc. EMG stands for ElectoMyoGraphy.. and this is electrical testing of the muscles, usually used to determine if msucles are properly inervated ( supplied by the nerves.) A nerve conduction test is targeted to the nerves specifically so this is more likely what the Doctors mentioned as many of them don't know the differece.
