I had scheduled 20wks scan, during this scan it was found that Roxanne had multiple Chroid Plexus cysts, and a couple of other problems relating to her cord and her kidney. We had amino but no further indicators showed up, at birth they scanned her head and found the cysts resolved but did note at this point that her lateral ventricles were slightly enlarged. The next indicator was an arrest a 3wks, mix up regarding the scans and it actually took until she was 3mths old before we found the cause. Her birth was extremely quick and she was black and blue for a month after. Maybe her quick entrance contributed but I think we had indicators of problems just so darn complicated that nobody picked up. I always will wonder about those cysts and what they tell us. She is an absolute joy and if I had to choose if I would do it all again I would be the first in line, nothing is as precious as a child and I wish all expecting parents they same happiness Rox has given me. Guest guest
<< So - if there is just a 'possibility' that this baby [my second grandchild] could have chiari - then I would think forceps should be avoided if at all possible. What do you think??? >> Peggy ....as a nurse , and student nurse , i worked in ob /nursery / postpartum ....the standard of practice /care then , where i worked , regarding use of forceps , was avoid em if ya can ..... over the three years ive been on the list ...many times members have discussed knowing forceps were used at their birth , or the birth of their child ....and speculated that there was a relationship to the existance of a chiari ....its also discussed in the medical literature abstracts / journal world a bit . .......personally , i think plain ol good common sense tells us , forceps and chiari would be a bad combo ...... so , what to do ? well several members are pregnant now , ....and seeing high risk specialists ...now , seems to me , since there are now journal articles about surgery to close spinal bifida before birth ..and chiari /hydro resolution sucess , .....it would seem to me , they could look for chiari in a fetus ,...if one is seen , then extra planing for the babys possible apnea ect can also be made ( close observation , and planing for interventions could be a true blessing , if chiari 2 for example was known ahead of time . ) as discusion of pregnancy and chiari , ...planed delivery ect evolves here .....i think its worth remembering many of us had children pre mri and diagnosis ....and most of us , did well , despite not seeing high risk specialists ......csections are a good planinng precaution /risk tradeoff in my opinion ....at asap , this was discussed some . one odd bit , i experienced , which i suspect is chiari /sb /teathered cord related ....was following birth , my uterus wouldnt clamp down ....., they ended up realising after huge clots had formed .....twas quite a mess ..... later , i had a lost pregnancy , and the same thing happened ....twice . each time required hospitalsation , and surgical asspriation , followed by pitocin iv a couple days ect .....uck ! while ive never seen it mentioned here on the list ....i suspect the inervation that says clamp down , is not working well in me , ....just like some other areas of my swiss cheese brain and cord :-( last , but not least ....i also had another anomaly , .....Gardners duct cysts ..it's part of the fetus during develpment ....the wolfian tract .....that instead of disapearing , appeared and starting growing bigger when i got pregnant .....required surgery ect . looking for info on it ,...its scarce ....not much in pubmed for example .....much less than chiari , ...( ack , how can that be ? ) ....but , i do wonder if they are related somehow ? anyone else delt with this one ( your welcome to respond offlist too ) ..... sarah in paradise ( wyvernnc@... ) .....chiari and ms .
