What

Suzanne has posted here is unfortuneately all very possible, and I

have no doubts, that all is indeed true.

1) UU.net is a very new (to me) as a spammer's haven, but , is

seeming to be just that, in the last two or three weeks. (for me

hopefully it is just new to spammers, and they are another domain

that actually cares , they seem to, so far)

We try to take them down, by turning them in , and sometimes the

ISP is very cooperative, and they shut down the account, but then the

dtermined spammers, just open a new account, elsewhere or with

different credentials.

The worst case is , the ISPs who state they have no control or

anything to do with spammers , etc. , or that the account doesn't

exist, as you were given fraudulant info, etc., when you KNOW ,

exactly where the spam originated.

" Sam Spade " is a really great program, to track these slime bags down

with, but you still gotta know which address to run down.

Also I have found it helps in notifying the addresses included in the

spam mail, (the administrators , or postmasters, of the domain) which

the spam mail refers you to contact to be removed, or where it is

indicating that it came from. The following is what I use in a

personal letter to them, since the spam probably did not come from

them, but the more people you get on these jerks, the better, in my

opinion:

" Hello. The spammer below is either using your resources to send out

bulk

unsolicited commercial e-mail ( " spam " ) or is deceptively trying to

make it

look like he is. In either case, a legitimate company like yours

probably

would not approve. The information below should be all you need. "

Don't reply to this " mail here to remove " line, don't reply at all.

Just turn them in. They have lists and list of people , just gathered

from the " remove lists " , that they sell or turn over to some other

bulk spammer, and you end up with a " spam war " , or worse yet ,

possibly " port hacking " attempts, etc., etc., depending on what info

you already have out there, and may have never known it.

There is a great program to prevent this also , free as is " Sam Spade "

it gives you a firewall, and declines packets sent to your computer

by others , programs designed to find an open port anywhere, and if

you pay and register it does even more.

The program is called " Net Commando " .

Zone Alarm is also a freebie that works (a little too well for some),

bt if you think some of the packets that are supposed to be normally

sent to your computer , and everyone elses, are not normal, and

suspect anything, it will tell you the DNS address of where every

single packet comes from.

Zone alarm does tend to go off over anything, so if you try this one,

don't just start turning in, or complaining about every single thing

it alarms at, to your ISP, or an abuse service. They get pretty

ticked about all of the false alarms from many similar programs out

there, set to go off at every little thing, like even a cookie.

(which also can be used for abuse)

I hear Spam Cop is supposed to be good also, and they can help at

www.spamcop.net

I know this is long, but until legislation changes, and people stop

responding to any type of spam, (probably never), we have to learn to

fend for ourselves, or get a program that turns away spam, for you so

you don't have to deal with it.

They are nice, but for me personally, I want to shut down the

spammers , rather than ignore them. It's nervewracking, and very time

consuming, and definitely not for someone with a headache, I am sure.

Here is a very detailed explanation similar to what happened to me,

after shopping for some computer parts on the web, and is the site

(ZD Net)

that I use to learn all I can:

http://cma.zdnet.com/texis/cma/cma/+v568eKDDwzmwwwhxFqr+98W++9qzmwwwwm

zmwwwwdFqrp1xmwBniFqnhw5B/display.html

There is also a site called Winfiles, I love, that has several free

downloads, too. http://winfiles.cnet.com

While some of you are still reading on here, I have to say that , in

many people's opinion, AOL is one of the easiest domains to get info

about people on. I won't go and slander AOL , just passing along what

I have heard, that's all.

And another final thought, I learned about the hard way. Is your ISP

new? Or do you know if they really know all the tricks to keep you as

safe as they should?

Send yourself an email, and look at all of the information, in the

headers.

You will find somewhere in your particular program a way to show all

of this info, in each email, or there is a way to view it.

I say to do this because, one of our first ISPs , used to give your

name and phone number right in the header of each email.

I had a dispute with a hacker type back in those days, on occasion,

and what do ya know , he sent me my phone number and address,

and asked , who would be there if he called or came over.

I told all of the technicians at my ISP about this and another

security hole they had, and they banned me forever, because I " scared

their techs to death, and they won't tolerate it!!! "

They fixed the problem and I got a new ISP.

Finally..... Your settings on whichever browser you are using, can

give any website you visit, your email address, and from there you

know the rest. There is a way to find you.

Change the settings in your browser, so that it displays

user@...,

or something, similar, that is not someone's real address,

preferrably.

I wish I could say, I would handle all the spam for everyone here, but

I can't.

I know I am forgetting alot of stuff, and this is all NCC anyway,

but , face it, we are on/in this web thing. And I would like everyone

to have a chance , before their mailbox , becomes a vault of spam,

everyday.

I know I wrote a very long post here, and am sorry for the length.

Just thought it was important to get some of this extra info to the

group. Those of you who may know someone that needs this info, please

pass it on. Together we can make a difference, in many areas, of our

lives.

Sincerely,

Terry
