Guest guest
I can't believe what was just reported on the news. I MEAN I CAN " T BELIEVE THIS!!!!!! There is this poor woman is Detroit who has a 50 lb fibroid (this has been medically verified) BUT HER INSURANCE WON'T PAY FOR HER TO HAVE IT REMOVED " BECAUSE DOCTORS SAY IT WON'T KILL HER " . Her name is and my local news just reported on this. They showed her being interviewed and she pulled up her blouse (hardly necessary) and turned sideways and she looks bigger than a nine month pregnancy!!!! She had a large fibroid previously and it her uterus ruptured. But her insurance still says she can just live with this. She says she is in constant pain, misses work, and is very desparate. Man of man.... I thought the AGOC guidlines established protocol for treatment of fibroids... and that once symptomatic something must be done. What the heck is going on here? Oh my gosh this woman is twice as big as me and I am 20+ weeks size. I am always in pain. I can't stand for any length of time, have trouble getting up or sitting down, rolling over, going up and down stairs or walking any distance. I can't imagine what she is going thru. Does anyone know how to help this woman? What can we do? B __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Well, B we could pool our funds and send them to her and see that see gets it out....How many of us are their? I was told my operation That I think I am having will cost $5000. The doc wants it up front. My insurance will not pay 100% of it because I am going to use a doc not on their list. How much they will pay is unclear, they will not say yet. I would assume that to remove a fibroid her size would cost much more and their would be substantial hospitalization to consider... Guest guest
This is pathetic! I'm from the Detroit area and haven't heard anything on our local news about this. I would like to know which insurance this woman has. I have been having insurance problems, but nothing like this. Do you know if she is in an HMO or does she have Blue Cross? I think she should keep fighting this. Maybe if the local media in Detroit paid some attention to this situation she could get some help. She should contact her State and US senators and representatives if she hasn't already. I'm just wondering, is the insurance company saying she doesn't need any surgery, or are they telling her they will only cover a hysterectomy? Guest guest
I agree with . Let's start a writing campaign to this Insurance Company and pass the word to everyone in our group and any related group that this Insurance Company takes our money and does not treat our medical conditions. Perhaps, sex discrimination case if they treat related male reproductive problems. I am ready to write.
Guest guest
god this tees me off! I think we should all write to the insurance company or to 60 Minutes, or to everyone, everywhere relentlessly and not give up until this poor woman is treated fairly and with compassion. Where does she live? I'm all for protesting and doing high theater with lots of sound bites and bad publicity opportunities! Just count me in! This is an atrocity! If a man's testicles swelled up fiftyt pounds, bet there'd be immediate follow-up and coverage. We must fight this nonsense tooth and nail. gigi. " L. Guest guest
I hope can provide more information. I've looked on websites of two local Detroit tv stations and found nothing. I also looked up Fox news and found nothing. I've thought of calling the Detroit tv stations if I had more information. I just can't believe that if the report made the national news that the stations in Detroit would not have found it newsworthy. Guest guest
She is in Detroit. The story is being carried by all the Fox News Stations. I saw it in Phoenix. Fox 10 is the Station there. The woman is a black woman and they didn't say who her insurance company was. But they showed her and she is HUGE. I mean she looks even bigger than woman who I have known who were nine months pregnant. They just kept repeating that her insurance company will not authorize any treatment as " doctors say it will not kill her " . I have tried and tried to get ahold of Fox, but to no avail. I have been thinking about this all day. The woman's last name is . That's all I know. Does anyone know about those news wire services, I think you can look up all kinds of stories somehow. We just have to help this woman. I left a lengthy mssg today on the newsroom answering machine explaining that the ACOG says you DO SOMETHING about these once they reach a certain size and are symptomatic and that having the same thing but smaller even at my size I have been warned about possible life threatening complications. I mentioned NUFF and www.uterinefibroids.com and Carla Dionne and asked them to PLEASE contact us and help this woman. I feel the new people must be sympathetic as they reported that this woman's uterus ruptured in the past from the same thing but the insurance company still says she is in no danger and can just live with it. I don't know how the story got from Detroit to Phoenix. This makes me think it must be on some kind of news grapevine. I'm in the middle of all kinds of medical appts, test, trip plans as I try to coordinate my surgery. I was in the ER myself last week (again) with pounding in my solar plexus which my internist said might be the fibroids pressing on my a-orta (sp?). She said it is a normal part of pregnancy but she couldn't say whether it was dangerous for me because this is not a pregnancy. I checked out ok, has abdominal u/s and was sent home. More laxatives, problem solved. Lovely. Can't live like this, so the push is on BIG TIME to get this junk out. That is why I can only imagine what this woman is going thru. I intend to try to follow up somehow but I don't know how. Wait, I do know a woman who knows a news person. I will get in touch with her. Meantime, all suggestions welcomed. --- Carla Dionne wrote: > State? News channel? Guest guest
What they kept saying in the report I heard was that it was a 50 lb tumor in her uterus. They kept saying uterus. In the one I saw there was no help in sight. Surely someone with the know-how will do something since it got so much publicity. Wish we knew how to send her some support. The poor woman probly dosen't know what she has. B --- Donna Jung wrote: > Carla Dionne wrote: > > State? News channel?
