I had the 98.6 temp once for a week, while on synthroid and cytomel over 10 years ago...and it was fantastic - although, overall, Armour has been better for me in so many ways....I had no aches, no pains, felt warm and focused in my daily tasks...didn't get worn out at the end of the day, felt almost euphoric in mood and ate anything I wanted while at the same time, losing a pound every day of that 5-6 days!! I got a lot done and didn't stress over a thing! My iron has always been high...and interestingly, the Armour has brought it down to high/normal levels, although I think my husband and I together passed on the gene for hemochromotosis to our son...anyway - I digress! So _ i am also interested in what everyone has to say about low body temp. As a child I lingered around 95.2...

As a child I lingered around 95.2... , even you may not be on a high enough dose of Armour! Take myself, for example. I found my " optimal " dose at 2 grains one year ago. I called it optimal because I had great energy, besides the new texture of my hair, softer skin, no more low-grade depression, etc. I figured that if I had THIS much energy, I must be on the perfect dose. But I was wrong. And what influenced me was being in touch with Dr. Derry in Canada who reminded us that folks were usually on 3 grains and more before the TSH was introduced in 1975! Since I had already tried 2 1/4 grains successfully, I went up 2 1/2, and now 2 3/4 grains..........with a goal of 3 grains. The above is NOT to say all folks here need to be on 3 grains or more! But it speaks of the reality that most of us could probably stand to be on more! Since I have increased once again, I have noticed even more improvements in other areas! Amazing. I was wrong to figure that once I got great energy, I was where I needed to be dose-wise!! And one more idea---you are right. Some folks just have lower temps. But do explore the ideas above. It might make the difference in your body temp. Janie aka ThyroDiva

I really think more Armour is called for...a couple of months ago, I actaully went up to 7 grains for 2 weeks...felt not much difference, but the point is, I didn't get hyper from it either. so I think it's time to go up..my doctor will go along with whatever I feel is right. I'll go up a grain at a time..you think??

I'll go up a grain at a time..you think?? Since you are already on a high dose, sounds good to me! You are very educated about thyroid, and I'm sure you know to stay on each grain increase for at least 5 weeks before upping again to give the T4 time to build up. Let us know your experience with upping! Several of us have been doing it with good results. Janie

Guest guest
I don't have it right here but I have a book about Thyroid stuff that says before the TSH test was invented that the only way someone got treatment was if they were very very very sick. They were going by the symptoms and they had to get to the point of being visibly sick before they got treatment. So if they were that sick of course their dosage would be higher. Just a thought. Was Broda doing his studfies then? I got the impression this doctor was going by Broda criteria.
