Re: What to Watch For- Hyper symptoms

It's putting your hands out in front of you, palms down, and just see if

you can hold them still. The more hyper you are the more your fingers

will move around... it's the extra thyroid hormone firing the muscles, it

affects all the muscles but the fingers, held out like that, are the

easiest to spot.

Rapid heart rate that takes half and hour of more to settle, or doesn't

go away at all.

'Hearing' your heart beat when you are still and quiet.. and that doesn't

seem to go away.

Excess body heat. Not the feeling of being hot, but people telling you

that you feel warm, all the time. People around you reaching for a

sweater and you feel fine. Or others saying it's really comfortable and

your are warm and uncomfortable.

Overactive brain. I don't want to liken it to Hyperactivity disorder, but

you keep thinking about stuff, inventing, dreaming, remembering, not

satisfied with just being, you feel like you have to be doing, like

nervous energy.

Increased appetite, decrease in weight, more frequent trips to the

bathroom....

Not everyone gets all the symptoms. And just because you may have some

doesn't mean that you are hyper, Many symptoms are also symptoms of other

things.

When I had my hyper episode a couple of months ago, it was about a month

after an increase in thyroid and it happened that I'd been outside

holding a ladder for my dad. It wasn't really hot out, but there was no

breeze and we were in the sun (he was putting up gutters), on the sunny

side of the garage. We were getting the heat from the sun and the heat

coming off the stucco. When I came in and sat down I was sweating,

shaking and had a racing heart. It may have been from the heat, I'm very

heat sensitive, even when hypo. I had some tepid water and tried to

relax, in case it was just the heat.... It was a couple of hours before

my heart slowed... My fingers did a bit of walking, but not as bad as

during my storm. My right eye lid did a bit of twitching for a few days.

And the thumb of my right hand (I spend 12 hours a day typing on

computers), the thumb that I always use to hit the space bar, started to

do a spasm thing....I cut my dose back to 1 grain for a couple of days

and then back to the 2 grain that I'd been taking before the increase....

About a month later I went to the 2 1/2 grain again with no side effects.

I went from 2 1/2 grain to 3 grain on Friday. I've got an increase in

appetite.. but not real bad, just getting hungry about 15 minutes or so

before it's time to eat. Other than that I'm doing pretty good. My legs

are a bit stiff.. but I've been getting up and doing more the last few

weeks and it may be catching up on me.... Just will wait and see.

I wasn't real keen on taking such a big jump. But my tabs are two grain

and I can't chop them smaller than a quarter tab... so 1/2 grain was my

option. If I start showing any symptoms that I'm not handling it well...

I'll cut back a bit and do alternation days, 2 1/2 one day, 3 the next...

until I've adjusted. Since I multi-dose, it's the difference between 5

doses on day and 6 the next.
