Cary

Cary currently serves as Technical Director of Start-Up/USA (Self-Employment Technical Assistance, Resources, & Training); a partnership between Virginia Commonwealth University and GHA. Funded by the Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy, the project is designed to further develop self employment

as an employment outcome for individuals with disabilities. With this role, Cary provides training and consultation to Start-Up/Florida, a collaborative project between the University of South Florida FCIC, the Agency for Persons With Disabilities and the Agency for Workforce Innovation. Cary also is coauthor of "Making Self-Employment Work for People With Disabilities" and "The Job Developer’s Handbook—Practical Tactics for Customized Employment".

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In addition to serving as Senior Partner at -Hammis Associates LLC, Cary is Director of Special Projects

at the Rural Institute, The University of Montana. Cary is also former Director of an adult vocational program

in southern Colorado, former Assistant Director of the Rocky Mountain Resource and Training Institute and

former Executive Director of the Center for Technical Assistance and Training in Colorado. Cary has written

and managed more than $20 million in grants and contracts; is on the editorial boards for the Journal of

Vocational Rehabilitation and the journal Mental Retardation, and has published extensively in the areas of

leadership, organizational development, supported employment and self-employment.
