What are the normal levels of these two >test supposed to be? Joy, it's not that they are " off " or " abnormal " . They are simply inadequate information without knowing your free T3. And your symptoms are far more important. Some folks have a free T4 of .91, and have an awful free T3. Other folks have a free T4 of .91 and have a great free T3---they are on a adequate dose of Armour. I am like the latter. If a typical doc was simply going by your TSH, he'd say " Joy, you are doing great. You need no more. " Or another typical doc would say " Joy, you are taking too much thyroid hormones. You need to cut it down. " BOTH are HORRIBLE pronouncements based on inadequate knowledge!!! Janie

Guest guest
Hi...just thought I would post my test results from last week. Doc called yesterday (at my request) to give me the results. So here goes.... TSH 2.5 (range .3 - 5.0) FT4 1.3 (range 0 - 1.9) FT3 3.2 (range 2.3 - 4.2) He did Thyroid Perosicase Antibody (TPO) too but I didn't ask about that because I have no idea what that is and what it is for. Maybe someone could explain that part. Questions....Is my T4 high and is that because that was what I was being prescribed only with Levoxyl? I was suprised about my FT3, I expected it to be lower but, there is still room for improvement. Six weeks after I had my last child my TSH was 1.5. I wonder what FT3 was at that point. I was feeling pretty good at that point. But then within six months it went up to 2.9....and my doc did't change my dosage! GRRRR But anywho.....I have been taking Armour for 5 days now. Started with 1/2 grain for 4 days before going up to 1/2 grain twice daily yesterday. Doc wanted me to just start on 1/2 grain twice per day immediately....I wanted to give myself a little buffer. I don't plan to increase again until I go back to the doc early Feb. Doc asked when he called if I was feeling better...I told him no and he said that it was a little soon to be feeling anything from the Armour. Anyway, here is the latest adn I would love to have feedback about the test results. Thanks! Kat
Guest guest
Kat, yes, your free T3 shows that you have room for improvement. Your TSH shows you have room for improvement. Your expression about your symptoms say you have much room for improvement. Yes, your fT4 is where it is because you have been on Levoxyl. No, your fT4 is NOT too high. Some folks like to get that fT4 in the upper part of the range with the fT3, but I haven't found that necessary yet. And if you are going to stay on one grain until Feb., pay attention to your symptoms. If you start feeling worse, it's a firm clue that you are undermedicated. And you should notice some effect on Armour by the 2nd to 3rd week, if not much sooner. Guest guest
I feel GREAT!! Seem to be getting better every day. I'm looking forward to when the labs get redone so I can have the results without taking the Armour first... I was really looking forward to seeing what the free T3 was just to see if it was above the upper limit...just like you said...a little above the upper limit is good...works for me!! ;o) Dusty Re: Test results Your labwork looks great! How do you feel?? Janie > Anyway my TSH is 0.004 (range 0.35 -5.50) - in July 2003 (before treatment) it was 2.51(which still isn't considered high) - I finally found my other lab work papers. My free T3 is 4.5 (range 2.3 -4.2) - in July 2003 (before treatment) it was 3.0. My free T4 is 1.1 (range 0.8 - 1.8) - in July 2003 (before treatment) it was 1.2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
