Guest guest
I live in a similar little village and can attest to the exercise tapes on my own. We don't even have classes available like we used to, so I have to inspire myself. It can be done with determination, but company is sure nice. I have to get it done before I even get dressed in the morning or all is lost:):) Constance Exercise I have been away for a few days and didn't read all the threads so excuse me if I am missing something. It seems that I skimmed through a few threads that were talking about exercise and gyms and how expensive they are and so forth. I think it was Sharon that said she lives in "hicksville" (LOL) and they didn't have Curves. I figure Sharon is not alone in living in an area that doesn't have an affordable gym so I wanted to toss out an idea - Jazzercise. Maybe you don't have any of these classes either but you can go to Jazzercise.com and see where there might be a class near you. I was amazed at all the classes there are out there and have been able to attend classes in other cities when I travel. My classes are taught at my city's community center and I am absolutely addicted. You can go at your own pace, there are many people doing many different levels and it is not intimidating at all. I really love that fact that you are in and out with a complete workout (warm up, cardio, weights, abs, and cool down) in one hour. I pay $32 a month for mine and I take 6 classes a week which ends up costing me about $1.33 a class - can't beat that!

Guest guest
For exercise, 4-5 days a week, I try to get to one of the treadmills in our community rec room between 5 - 7 AM unless I have to leave early. When days are longer, I'll sometimes walk outside.I usually do 30 - 45 minutes with varying inclines and speeds of 3.0 - 3.5 mph. Twice a week, I'll use Miriam Nelsen's book, " Strong Women Stay Young " (or something like that) with ankle and hand-held weights. I also try to sneak in extra exercise throughout the day. I'll take stairs whenever possible and park at the margins in parking lots. Some of my days involve carrying 20 - 25 lb pieces of equipment, also (TVs, manikins, oxygen inhalators, etc). Guest guest
Carol and Joanna, I like the idea of building in exercise in your normal routine, like parking at the back of the parking lot. I'm also walking my dog more. I once heard that if your dog is overweight, its owner is out of shape! Welcome , Stacie and Kathy! I just joined this group, too, and have already learned a lot. I don't low-carb, I just follow the ADA food pyramid, but I still end up with around 100 carbs a day and a much more balanced diet than I was eating before. And since my diagnosis 11/29/01, I've lost 33 pounds and gotten my BG under control. This morning's reading was 79. I eat three small meals and two snacks a day, so I'm never really hungry. I'm learning that there is no one right answer to DM control. The trick seems to be to find what works for YOU, and keep on testing. Guest guest
Well, I got in 30 minutes of floor exercises today plus 10 minutes on my total body machine. I doubt I'll get out much over the weekend. Bad thunderstorms are expected and I don't go out when the weather is bad if I can help it. Hope you have a nice weekend.
