My Hep visit.........YAHOO!!!

Well, I know I had been feeling pretty good this whole

past year....and my dr. visit today confirmed it as

well.

My LFT's have dropped dramatically, I show no signs of

chirrosis, and the doctor said, he wasn't so sure I

needed to see him yet, but when I frowned at him, he

said, it would be his pleasure to follow someone along

the whole path instead of receiving a patient when

things are really bad.

I won't go into detail of all of my labs, but they are

looking pretty good compared to last year.

I do know my albumen is low at 3.1 and I think norm is

starting at 3.4, but it was also low last year.

My platlets are up at 536 but I don't know what that

means. I was so caught up in my elation I forgot to

ask what that meant.

He told me that there are basically 4 reasons to

transplant the liver. 1) liver failure, 2) frequent

uncontrollable cholangitis attacks, 3) itching that

cannot be controlled and 4) early detection of cancer.

He told me that UNOS has given the ok to a Nebraska

hospital and Mayo Clinic to transplant cancer

patients. So, that is a bit of info to put in the

memory bank.

He also said I was one of the healthiest looking PSC

patients he has seen...so that probably means I am one

of the ones that have not progressed enough that I

should have been referred to him.

Since he did not have my liver biopsy report

(different hospital), he is sending me for an

abdominal MRI. He prefers to treat with the

non-invasive measure at all costs. He would only do a

ERCP if he needed to open up a stricture.

He did tell me I had a 4mm stricture in my common bile

duct...and that was noted back in 1997.

Anyway, I feel pretty good tonight and wanted to share

that with all of you.

That is VERY good news .... Congratulations!

I do remember well all the problems you were having about a year ago

with itching. What is your guess for your continued improvement -

please share.

Whatever you are doing ..... KEEP IT UP!

Irene, the only thing I changed in my whole program

from last year was that I was bumped up 30% on my

Actigall, from 600 mg to 900 mg a day, and instead of

taking it 2 times a day, I take the whole shot at

night. At the time the doctor believed that during

the night the bile collects in the gallbladder and

having this dose at night helps keep it from cloggin

up, as well as helps if you feel nauseated from the

meds. The other thing was I started taking prenatal

vitamins...they can be purchased OTC now (they

couldn't when I was in my child bearing days).

Luanne, it did make me gain weight which right now I

don't need. But it has spurred me to join a health

club and work out.
