Guest guest
Barb, Is coherent enough to be making that kind of decision? I know he is old enough to make his own decisions but isn't he really in a state of competency to make this kind of decision. I can see if he refused to have another transplant but to leave a wound open. My heart just cries out for that family and all that they are going through. Of course we will include Grandma and brothers in our prayers it all adds to the stress of it all. Boy it's so hard to want to help then and all we can do is pray and make ourselves available to give support, it just doesn't seem enough. I really pray that this family can have some peace. Please dear God bless that whole family!!!!!! Peg __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Mukund, So glad to hear from you at last. Sorry this treatment didn't go as well as the others, but at least this one is over and you can get on with things. So proud of you, and isn't it exciting visiting the courts? You keep up the great work. Hugs, MM
Guest guest
Hi Mukund. I am sorry you are having a rough time, right when you should be basking in the glory of all your hard work. I realize you may not want a stent or cath, but might be better in other ways for you. The timing for you really bites, to say the least. Can you explain about the ads and the objections about you and the bar? What is up with that, and what exactly does this mean? I also share my throne at times.... :-) has even been in there with me , via phone that is...Gee, isn't she the honored one though? If I was there, we could have had "throne races". :-D I did have to LOL about what you said, people betting on ya. I hope things get better soon for you. Good to see a post from you. You take care and keep us posted on how you are doing. Love, Normi Update Hi Just got back from a day at the hospital yesterday after getting my third infusion of Cyclophosphamide. Things didn't go pretty well this time as they couldn't locate any vein in both my hands for the intravenous administration and finally they actually got hold of a vein in my right ankle and pumped the medicine in. I still have three more infusions to go and it looks like they may find it difficult next time also. They probably might insert a stent or catheter next time which would be in place until this course of medicine gets over. This is the last thing I need currently since I've right now started to go to Courts and observe proceedings most days just to get a feel of things. If I have to carry a stent around I'll have to be doubly careful about infections. Dont have much of a choice I guess. After the drug was administered I was monitored for urine output hourly and they also pumped in some Lasix to ensure output. The patients in the ward actually started betting on my running to the bathroom and back everytime!! Of course I had the last laugh as I was back home in 24 hours. Normi, if you're reading this, this time time around I would have really given a run for your money over the Throne!! On the brighter side, I just got an advertisement published in a local newspaper on Friday calling for objections to my being enrolled to the Bar Council. I'll have to wait another 10 days before I can formally move an application for enrolment. I'm most likely to be called to the "Bar" on 13th November. Mukund Post your ad on Yahoo! India Autos. Guest guest
Be sure to heed the warning or caution on the Lantus insulin vile, which tells you to dispose of it after 28 days after opening it. I am a cheapscape, so I tried several times to use any remaining Lantus in the vile after 28 days and some times it works and some time it doesn't. The Lantus seems to gradually lose its potency after it has been opened. I have learned to dispense with the guess work by pitching the unused Lantus after 28 days, which disheartens me, but alas, I prefer accuracy and potency when dosing with insulins. Now that my Lantus requirement has risen to 36 units at bedtime, I no longer am faced with unused Lantus after 28 days, since I have now used all of it, the whole 1000 units in a vile, by that time. Check to see if your insurance will cover Humalog or Novolog, since you will need both the pen and needles to go with it. Novolog is faster acting than Humalog and it does not stay in your system as long as Humalog, and as well it takes approximately 10% less of Novolog to do what Humalog does. I presently use Humalog, and it is good to know there is another short acting insulin available. We will be glad to teach you how to dose with short acting insulin like Humalog. Just let us know. update > > >> >> I am now up to 20 units of Lantus per night. >> My doctor took me off of glipicide and actos. >> Put me on avandia. >> And I am to see him in two weeks. >> But the insulin was started on August 20, and in 20 days the lantus has >> gone from 6 units to 20 units. >> Any comments? >> Thanks, Dave >> >> >> >> >>

Guest guest
On both Humalog and Lantus medication precaution inserts it is advised to keep them in a temperature range between 40 to 86 degrees F, and it is advised not to ever let them freeze or overheat. I am told that once the insulin is opened, one can keep it at room temperature for up to 28 days, but I always store mine in the refrigerator butter keeper. On trips I store the Lantus in a lunch pail with a cold pack, especially if I am going to be gone for over night or several days. If I am just going out for dinner or visiting for the day I usually just carry the Humalog pen in my shirt pocket along with a needle or two and a couple of alcohol wipes or just have my wife carry them in her purse. I never leave them in the car, which can get very hot when it just sits in the sun. Medications of all kinds are best kept in the dark. update >> >> >>> >>> I am now up to 20 units of Lantus per night. >>> My doctor took me off of glipicide and actos. >>> Put me on avandia. >>> And I am to see him in two weeks. >>> But the insulin was started on August 20, and in 20 days the lantus >>> has gone from 6 units to 20 units. Guest guest
Harry, I would suspect that the closer to 40F you keep the meds the longer they will stay " fresh " and be closer to the dosage they were when they were opened. This is important with many antibiotics. Actually, this also applies to the pill form of medicines as well. I was originally thinking of only the liquid form. Cy, the Ancient One & Grady... Guest guest
20 units or more is quite normal for type 2 diabetics. wont' surprise me if it still might go up a few more units. Type 2 diabetics are insulin resistant and require three times the amount of insulin as type 1 diabetics so just be aware of that. If a person's jaw drops and they say I only take 5 units of lantus, or 10, then you know right away that they are type 1 and are not insulin resistant. Just a heads up... Regards, update I am now up to 20 units of Lantus per night. My doctor took me off of glipicide and actos. Put me on avandia. And I am to see him in two weeks. But the insulin was started on August 20, and in 20 days the lantus has gone from 6 units to 20 units. Any comments? Thanks, Dave
