Guest guest
I'm currently working at a hospital and would like to pick up some more work at home if possible. The only problem is I don't have a whole lot of reference material and really can't afford to buy 9 or 10 books. Can someone tell me if there is a good CD that covers a wide range of of systems or fields...such as Peds, Cardiac, GI, GU, etc.? Buying one or two discs is a much better option for me. Any suggestions?... TIA Jim....4 months on the job and still loving it!
Guest guest
Jim: The only disk that I can think of off the top of my head that is available on CD is the Stedman's Electronic Dictionary. I use this to look up terms that I am not sure of their meaning/thus if it fits into the report. This software does not help you unless you know the correct spelling, however. There is no 'find' feature in this program by means of " sounds like " . If you have the correct spelling and term, it is very comprehensive and even includes graphics and video anatomic charts pertaining to some terms. This was a gift to myself when I passed my CMT designation...aren't I exciting. I would find myself typing something over and over sometimes and not really knowing exactly how it fit into the big picture. It assists me in the continuing education process, which is key in this field. Vera Pyle's Current Medical Terminology is also available on disk. However, it is exactly as the title states...current medical terminology...used to find the newest or most unusual terms. Truthfully, when I had it on disk, I did not find that I used it much. I will however reach for the printed edition on occasion, which I did just add to my reference library on Natl MT Week this year. I would recommend a drug reference software such as Quicklook on CD. While this does need to be updated about every year and a half, I find it to be very helpful...including dosages, etc. Later on, you may think about investing in a " short-hand " program of some kind. I personally use and love Insta-Text. But there are many...PRD, SpeedType, etc. I hope this helps, Jim. I am sure you will get much feedback from this board. Good Luck...and let us know if we can help in anyway along the way. Cheryl, CMT
