with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

Reference: " Effect of a dietary supplement containing blueberry and sea

buckthorn concentrate on antioxidant capacity in type 1 diabetic

children, " Nemes-Nagy E, et al, Acta Physiol Hung, 2008; 95(4): 383-93.

Pharmacy, Str. Gheorghe Marinescu nr. 38, cod 540139, Târgu-Mure?,

Summary: In a study involving 31 type 1 diabetic children, results

indicate that dietary supplementation with blueberry and sea buckthorn

may exert beneficial effects. The children received a dietary supplement

containing blueberry and sea buckthorn concentrates daily, for a period

of 2 months. At intervention end, erythrocyte superoxide dismutase

activity and C peptide concentrations were significantly higher, and

glycated hemoglobin levels were significantly lower, compared to

baseline. Thus, the authors conclude, " These results suggest that

treatment with this dietary supplement has a beneficial effect in the

treatment of type 1 diabetic children and it should be considered as a

phytotherapeutic product in the fight against diabetes mellitus. "
