Guest guest
, Thank you. Vitex helps me (used it year and half since age 49), also changing diet, reading (Northrup, Skilling, Cutler), and a simple biofeedback technique for emotions at http://www.shalif.com/psychology/ Reading a few pages on craniosacral therapy - I see a similarity. First learned I had a fibroid in 1982, not a problem until 2 1/2 years ago. Since my fibroid symptoms are easier since Vitex (herb agnus-castus vitex) - I'm waiting it out until menopause. Could be months or years away still. Kept regular gyn checkups every 6 months since the fibroid symptoms grabbed my attention. Last time clinic said come back in a year, the fibroid was slightly smaller. I also found the post interesting of INFINITYANDON that her fibroids shrank while a nursing mom. Nursed my youngest (now age 14) for a year. At 05:29 PM 3/15/01 -0500, you wrote: >Regarding supplements/vitamins/holistic etc. I am going through a >nutritionist for the supplements. Guest guest
What is Vitex and how does it help fibroids shrink? What herbal treatment can help fibroids shrink that are safe? I am 45 and hoping they will shrink soon, once I get towards menopause.

Guest guest
Hi Everyone. I just learned that I am 6 weeks pregnant and have multiple fibroids. The smallest is about 5cm and the largest about 8cm. I'm trying to find more information on natural treatments. Has anyone tried Yellow Dock or Shepherd's Purse herbal teas? Any other natural remedies out there? Thanks!

Guest guest
Vitex is a herb. I've been using vitex for year and half. I use the vitex in capsules from GNC. I saw a difference in cycle in one month, no unwanted side effects. In reply to this I did a web search at www.meteor.com for " agnus-castus vitex " and references From " Nursing CEUs for Herbal Medicine " http://www.nurseceu.com/ch1.htm Vitex agnus castus Vitex has been used for menstrual difficulties for at least 2,500 years. The botanical name Vitex agnus-castus comes from the Greek meaning " chaste " because the ancient Greeks thought the plant calmed sexual passions. It has also been given folk names of " monk's pepper " and " chaste berry " . In truth, vitex neither suppresses nor increases libido. Vitex is an important herb for woman's health. It restores and regulates the estrogene/progesterone balance. It is benenficial in treating dysmenorrhea, delayed periods, PMS, endometriosis, and infertility. It may be used to regain hormonal balance after the use of birth control pills. Vitex preparations usually must be taken for 4 to 18 months before improvement in symptoms can be expected. A 1992 survey of German gynecologists evaluated the effect of Vitex on 1,542 woman diagnosed with PMS. Ninety percent of both physicians and patients reported relief of symptoms after treatment averaging 25.3 days. Vitex may be helpful in managing hot flashes in the early stages of menopause. It is not helpful once the ovaries have ceased to function and is not appropriate in the post menopausal woman. Vitex has been used to increase milk production in lactating woman. Side effects are rare and include gastrointestinal complaints, headache, skin changes (acne, itching, erythema),and changes in menstrual cycle. (, S., 1996g), (Gladstar, R., 1993, p257, 258), (Hobbs, C.,1996) Using plants as medicine is an ancient tradition. The resurgence of interest in botanical medicine is supported by empirical as well as scientific evidence of its healing power. Used prudently , herbal medicine can effectively compliment other treatment modalities. http://www.healthy.net/library/books/hoffman/materiamedica/chaste.htm commercial site, good info http://www.thorne.com/townsend/oct/herbal.html Herbal Research Review http://www.eclecticphysician.com/herbs/vitex.shtml The Eclectic Physician At 08:39 AM 3/19/01 -0500, you wrote: >What is Vitex and how does it help fibroids shrink? Guest guest
Hi : I used Shepherd's Purse to help in controlling heavy bleeding for about 3 months. I probably should've stayed on it longer, but it wasn't working and I got antsy. I didn't notice any side effects while I was using it and as I recall I only used it during my period (which was probably all the time) Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but perhaps some of the herbs work with certain types of fibroids and others don't .
