Guest guest
Hi Dave, Re: Nonprofit organizations. I've FAR too frequently heard RDs giving " discounts pricing " or volunteering for all sorts of " non-profit " organizations, thinking it's not fair to make a fair wage because the organization is " non-profit. " Now, I'm not suggesting volunteering isn't important or that all " non-profits " have a ton of money available to pay employees or don't NEED volunteers to survive. But, I AM pointing out that there are MANY non-profits that have TONS of $$ available to pay staff adequately. Some non-profit board members easily earn over $100,000 salary/year - so why should the RD be " volunteering " to the same organization just because they are " non-profit. " Anyway, just my rant for the day about RDs that sometimes devalue our worth by working for too little when the boards of such organizations aren't at all afraid to expect a fair wage for working for the same organization! I give money to 501C3s (non-profits) that lobby Congress regarding topics I agree with. CSPI does the same thing. I just don't always agree with their methods. I used to work for a non-profit hospital. Their ulterior motive was to make money! Non-profits are not prevented from making a " profit " . They just have to account for and spend it differently but they all have motives for the work they do.
