Fantastic and encouraging!

[ ] Chelation- Just done my 2nd weekend, need

suggestions (also good news)

Hi everyone,

I had asked about DSMA and ALA a couple of weeks ago, got it, tried

it and have some interesting results.

My seven year old son is PDD-NOS has speech deficits, auditory

processing problems, and social communication deficits. He did

absolutely fantastic on the DSMA the first week end. The second week

end I added ALA and he still did great, but now is better off this

week then on the ALA. Regardless, he is talking up a storm at home

and at school. His visual awareness is fantastic he wants to tell me

all day what he sees down to the fly on the ceiling in his bedroom.

He interacts more appropriately with everyone and is much happier

then I've seen him in months. The school wants to know if we are

doing any therapies at home because his behavior is perfect at school

and he is having conversations with his teachers and even seeking

them out to tell them things. I of course told them " NO, we are not

doing anything different. " Anyway, any suggestions or thoughts on

the dip in behavior on the ALA? Oh, and I forgot to mention, I

couldn't believe that I observed no slide backwards in between

weekends. How fantastic.

My five year old asperger's child is a different story. I did the

DSMA with him and couldn't tell whether it made a difference but he

did seem alot calmer during the week. After adding the ALA, he was

off the wall. So hyperactive and out of control. He didn't listen

to anyone and redirection was pointless. Now that we are off, he has

calmed down and back to his normal goofy self. Any thoughts on him

would be appreciated?

I'm going to continue for the ten weeks, even with the ups and downs.

Hope everyone else is as lucky as I.

Hi Krystene,

Always happy to hear good news :)

Skipping to the questions:

> Anyway, any suggestions or thoughts on

> the dip in behavior on the ALA?

My thoughts on it are " vague " -- namely that someone can do

either better or worse while " on " and either way can be either

a good sign or a bad sign. Okay, maybe that sounds crazy, but

it seems to me that it can go all ways, and that I really don't

make all that much of it. Myself, I would be most encouraged

by the " upward trend " -- that is (if I'm following you)-- he

is getting better each round, but what varied was whether the

ON period was a particularly " good " time. Some of my SPECULATION

as to reasons he might be worse on are: he is reacting to the

metals leaving (stressful), he is reacting to the sulfuryness

of ALA (only if he is high sulfur already), he is having some

other issue. I think there are lots of possibilities. I realize

this is " no help " :(

> My five year old asperger's child is a different story. I did the

Well, did he get BETTER afterwards? If so I would wonder if the

ALA is helping but the detox is stronger and hard for him to

handle (try lower dose?) -- OR it could be that he is reacting

to the ALA and NOT to detox of metals--- such as he could be

reacting to the sulfuryness. Those are some possibilities that

come to mind. Any idea if he reacts to other sulfury things

in a similar hyperactive way? If sulfur is the issue, then

a sulfur restricted diet while chelating would help.

There are (again) probably tons of other possibilities that I

either don't know or am not thinking up.

thanks for sharing happy news.

best wishes,

Moria

For both children, consider yeast. ALA really aggravates my kids'

yeast issues.

http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/yeast.htm

You also might want to reduce the dose of ALA with your AS son because

it sounds like it was pulling metals out too fast for him. Or maybe

he has dental fillings? But anyway, I would recommend reducing the

dose.

Hello, just read your post and noticed how old it is. Just wanted

to check and see how things are progressing with the 7 yr. old. Did

you work out the ALA issue and can you offer any advise for a

determined father of a 6 yr. old high functionig boy on the

spectrum? Thanks,

Your story sounds very much like our when we began..so

congradulations! As for the effect of ala you may try waiting a while

longer before using it or reducing the dose of it. Some kids need to

do dmsa alone for a while to lower body burden before beginning ala.

Our son also responded very well and immediately to dmsa/ala

chelation. He has done 32 rounds, it's been 20 months and he is doing

fantastic. We have some minor auditory left that we are dealing with

using therapy..but he is no way close to what he was when we started.

He fit the profile for Pervasive Developmental Delay. To look at him

now, you can't tell him apart from his peers.

Not sure if this question was directed at me or the previous post, but

we did give at night too. Every four hours at night and every three

during the day because we are giving ala with.

Please help me out here....I have few questions before I start the

chelation

1. For mercury toxicity I should start with DMSA, dosage 1/8 per

pound. Is this correct???

2. Where can I get DMSA?

3. My son is 50 so it would be 6.25 GRAMS or MG? How can I get the

exact dosage?

4. If your child goes to bed at 9 pm then next dose would be 1 am

and 5 am. So do you set the alarm for next dose and wake him up two

times at night????

4. How long I have to keep him on DMSA before I can addd ALA?

5. How to determine that it is time to end the chelation?

I would really appreciate your input on this :-) Thanks in advance!!!

*****If you are just dealing with Mercury you can skip DMSA and go right to

using ALA. Some prefer to " clean out " metals from the body with DMSA first and

then add ALA so the mercury from the brain can be removed.

2. Where can I get DMSA?

http://www.vrp.com/about.aspx

3. My son is 50 so it would be 6.25 GRAMS or MG? How can I get the

exact dosage?

****** It would be MGs and I just " eyeball " it.

4. If your child goes to bed at 9 pm then next dose would be 1 am

and 5 am. So do you set the alarm for next dose and wake him up two

times at night????

Yes, it is a little easier for some than others. I just use a liquid syringe

and squirt it into my son's mouth at night. He doesn't even wake up!

4. How long I have to keep him on DMSA before I can addd ALA?

******you could start them together, but I think it's best to try one of these

by itself first so you can watch for reactions. If there are none then you can

use them together

5. How to determine that it is time to end the chelation?

******depends on how toxic your child is and how quickly they begin to excrete

the metals. Andy says 6 months to 2 years. You can also do periodic urine tests

while chelating to see what is coming out and how much.

Also, look in the " supplement " file for this group and start your child on a

regiment before you begin chelating.

I would really appreciate your input on this :-) Thanks in advance!!!

Sunny,

VRP sells DMSA.

When you add ALA you go to three hours during the day, 4 at night.

We went to bed around 10 or 11, did next dose at 2 or 3, then at 6 or 7. So, it

was one nightly dose for us.

I've heard to add it around 4-6 months in. Our son was older and hadn't had

vaccines for years, so we added it in earlier.
