[Moderators note: The striking, Delhi doctors are presenting the

most shameful face of Indian medical fraternity. They are also exhibiting, how

far the Indian privileged class became insensitive, self seeking and self

serving. The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry must be commented on their

swift action]

Termination notice to 600 striking doctors

Special Correspondent

They have been given 24 hours to reply

NEW DELHI: Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Wednesday

issued termination notices to over 600 striking senior resident

doctors of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and three

Central Government-run hospitals in the capital. They were given 24

hours to reply to the notice and advertisements for fresh

recruitments would be issued in a couple of days, Ministry sources

said.

The action came after the Delhi High Court issued notice to the

Centre seeking to know what alternative steps it took to provide

health services to people. The notice was issued on a public

interest litigation petition filed by the Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya.

Termination notices with immediate effect were issued to 200 senior

resident doctors in the AIIMS and 400 others in the Safdarjung, Ram

Manohar Lohia and Lady Hardinge Medical College hospitals. Doctors

from the Army and the Railways are treating out-patients.

Health services in Delhi have been badly hit for the past four days

following the strike.

Re: Monderators note on the message " Termination notice to 600 striking

doctors "

Dear Moderator,

Although not part of the striking doctors, I take a strong excpetion

to your note on this message. I am not sure why you wish to please

the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry by condemning the

doctors.

I do sympathise with poor patinets but was the Union Health Ministry

not aware of this pending crisis when it began sometime back. Why

did the govt remain quiet?

When you say 'Indian privileged class became insensitive, self

seeking and self serving' what is it that you are trying to prove?

How can you generalise these statements and in what capacity? Class

discrimination is created when you make people realise that there is

something called a different class of people and there being of

different class they will be allowed an extra share of pie leaving

you hungry.

Why cannot govt increase number of seats specifically

for such classes if they are really concerned. Ofcourse I do not

expect you to have answers to any of the questions because you are

not in a policy making position but my humble suggestion is that get

your facts right before making such statements.
