Guest guest
Nanette, Wow that's some medical lingo! Your doctor is the best person to interpret the pathology report based upon your specific history. Ask him what the pathology findings mean interms of your RAI treatment & prognosis. Even though the tumor was large - it appears that it did not spread beyond the thyroid and this is very good news. * " Overt infiltration through the fibrous capsule is not identified. " * " Metastatic papillary carcinoma is not identified. " Not as good news: " The remainder of the left lobe of the thyroid contains a large and relatively extensive papillary carcinoma. " Question for your doctor: How big was the actual tumor & what sub-type of papillary thyca? Perhaps some other folks will be able to outline what factors are considered in determining the initial RAI dose. I do know that the degree of thyca spread is one factor (eg. if it spread beyond the thyroid a higher dose is given) and in your case it appears that the thyca is contained.
