Guest guest
We discussed with our priest and it was understood, it would be at the alter and blessed by the priest. It would be on its own plate and he hands us the plate, we take cracker our self. No wine. Alter guild sets up for us every week. Guest guest
- Do you just walk up with it & the priest blesses it? How does it work for you guys? I've discussed this with our priest & his response was exactly this same answer about just drinking the wine. His response was based on a teenager & a deacon that he knows who do exactly that, drink the wine only. Our 7 yo is the celiac in our house & we're facing the same issues with 1st Communion, so any advice is welcome!!! Re: Article: "Can't Eat Gluten? You can Still take Communion" (... Guest guest
I just went through the same thing with my son who received his first communion last year and was diagnosed a few months ago. My pastor totally blew me off, and the other parish in my area suggested the wine also, but would not let me switch to their parish! They say that the host must have wheat in it, and some will get a host with .01% wheat for celiacs. We all know that this is unacceptable. After talking to a few people, I found out about a lovely parish in the next state (we are on the border so it is close) that was willing to give my son and me GF host, and even though I was not a parishoner they helped me greatly. They gave me a pyx which is a communion holder for use when priests travel to give communion. They also gave me a few GF hosts but asked me to order more from EnerG. I give the pyx to the priest before mass starts. He blesses it with the other communion, then my son and I go up with the Eucharistic Ministers and receive then. When he sees my son he realizes we are the ones who need the pyx hosts, and he gives it to us. This parish understands that celiacs cannot have ANY wheat, and they believe that God wouldn't punish them for helping us and going against " canon law. " Hopefully if you look at different parishes in your area, you will find one as progressive as this one and who will be willing to use the GF host also. Good luck.
