This all depends on what you need from the eval. Do you need a school placement, (or services at school)? Or just a diagnosis?

You can go to any neurologist for a diagnosis. A psychoeducational evaluation should come from your schoolboard, however, there are always waiting lists, which is why a neurological eval could supplement until that occurs and can help by being presented to the schoolboard. In other words, perhaps it may facilitate the other eval to be expedited if he should have a diagnosis.

The school board eval is free to you, the neurologist is not but there are neurologists who accept medicaid.

And you are correct. The process is frustrating and seemingly complicated.

Hope this helps.

psychoeducational evaluation

I am still on the fence about where the heck I can get an evaluation for my almost5 year old son to find out if he is in the autism spectrum or not! I have been told by our pediatirition that a psychoeducational eval is what I need to do.Black and white, what can I do and who can I see that will take medicaid? I moved here from San Diego and it just seems like it shouldnt be this complicated to getan eval done for my son!!!! Frustrated,Leanne

Hello Leanne, I am going thru exactly what you are questioning about right now. My son is also 5 yr old that is not diagnosed. We have had several evals by the school district but my opinion is that they do their evals for your child to fit in the "programs" they offer or just to justify you to get services, but only the services they offer(in the budget). Of course this varies from SD to SD. I let them do an evaluation, I did not agree with the outcome so I requested an independent eval that they took financial responsibility for. You can email me directly if you feel like. SofiaTinaTerriAustin wrote: This all depends on what you need from the eval. Do you need a school placement, (or services at school)? Or just a diagnosis? Hi Leanne,

I'd like to offer my help if I can. We're another route to try and are equipped with a list of resources. Your circumstance is one of the many reasons why the Special Needs Hotline at 2-1-1 was developed last year; to assist parents struggling to find answers. When you dial 2-1-1 (or ) and ask to speak to Ronda or I, we will connect you to providers that offer that much-needed evaluation. We can also call you back to see if the information and resources were helpful. If you don't get where you and your son need to be, for his critical intervention to take place, I will make advocacy calls and at the same time offer to connect you to local advocates and support groups to help you in this process. I hope this helps and that you find the answers you need.

You can respond to me off-list via email or by calling.

Thank you,

Billie Special Needs Manager2-1-1 Broward 3217 NW 10th Terrace, Suite 307Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309(Information and Referrals) 2-1-1 or (fax) email: bmorgan@...website: www.211-broward.org/specialneedsindex.htm

Hi Sofia,

Did the IEE change anything? You are so right about the school

district. You always have to remember they do not have to give the most

appropriate service, only an appropriate one. Try proving their service is not

appropriate.

Hi Leanne

Dr. Ami Flam Kuttler in Hollywood will do a full psyched eval. for your son. She is very thorough and a lovely person. I don't know if she takes Medicaid though. If she doesn't, she might know someone who does! Her tel. .

Good luck. Caroline.
