Guest guest
Hi , I've been a diabetic now since August of 2003, or at least, that is when I was diagnosed. I am type 2, and am taking pills to help control it. I had a terrible time learning how to poke myself. I have an acu check voice mate, and I went through strips like crazy. I heard it tell me about glucose errors, etc. I had people watch me stick myself, I had my wife Melinda work with me until finally I could stick myself and get a reading generally within 10 seconds after sticking my self. Melinda has been a type 1 diabetic now for 34 years and could see until she was in her twenties. This makes a big difference. She was sticking herself and giving shots for many years when she had sight. I practiced and worked hard, and was very frustrated for quite a while. Suddenly, something clicked and I was able to begin drawing blood almost effortlessly. Being born blind makes a difference, and sometimes you just have to keep trying until you succeed. Good Luck. You will eventually become more comfortable, but keep practicing.
