Guest guest Posted January 29, 2006 Report Share Posted January 29, 2006 AIF Calls for Applications to 'India Medicorps Fellowship' Friday January 27, 6:39 pm ET NEW YORK, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The American India Foundation (AIF) invites applications to its newly-launched AIF India Medicorps fellowship. In line with its broader Public Health - HIV/AIDS program strategy, AIF launched Medicorps on World AIDS Day 2005 to connect U.S.-based healthcare professionals with recipient institutions in India to expand the overall medical responsiveness to the HIV/AIDS crisis. " By transferring state-of-the-art knowledge and skills to India, Medicorps Fellows will make a direct contribution to a top national priority -- strengthening India's healthcare capacity to combat and contain the burgeoning HIV/AIDS epidemic, " says Rema Nanda, Director of AIF's Public Health - HIV/AIDS Program. AIF calls for applications from U.S.-based healthcare professionals wanting to make a meaningful difference in India with their professional expertise. Medicorps offers that opportunity provided the following qualifications are met: (1) 5+ years work experience, (2) currently employed in public or private practice and (3) willing to offer his/her services pro bono to Indian institutions. Applicants with HIV/AIDS-related expertise -- infectious disease specialists, epidemiologists, social workers, public health professionals, nurse practioners, etc. -- are encouraged to apply. The Medicorps Advisory Committee comprised of physicians, academics, NGO leaders and AIF staff will make the final selection of Medicorps Fellows. Every effort will be made to match the Fellows' specific skills with the corresponding needs of host institutions in India. AIF will arrange for all expenses related to travel, boarding and lodging. Further details: * Medicorps positions are short-term opportunities of one to four week durations. Placements for the inaugural year will commence between April-June 2006 and between November-December 2006. Exact start dates will be determined mutually by all parties. * Medicorps placements can be anywhere in India. Proposed sites include Gujarat, Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Assam. Placements may involve travel to more than one site. * The Medicorps Fellow will receive a waiver of liability from the host institution. To apply, please submit a detailed resume and cover letter explaining why you are interested in the Medicorps fellowship, and at least two placement preferences within India.
