Consulting Pay

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what the average hourly wage might be for a consulting

dietitian? A range would be good. I am in New Hampshire.

What would I need to consider as an employed consultant? Liability insurance,

taxes, etc? Would there be any pros or cons to consider?

Thanks so much for any information.

Healthy Regards,

RD, LD

I do remember when this listserv was created, one of the reasons was

in order to discuss rates. Not sure what the consensus is around that, now?

So, in order to not create any problems, here's a suggestion I have for

you, ; literally, do a search for dietitians! Many have their

rates on their websites! (which is why it's silly, in my opinion, to NOT

discuss rates..)

But, you said an 'employed consultant', so what does that actually mean?

Are you contracting with the organization? If you are contracting and

are a 'consultant' (ie, independent contractor), yes, you will be liable

for all your expenses, as it will be YOUR business that is contracting

to work for the other organization.

If you're going to be an 'employee', then the employer will handle all

payroll taxes, etc. In some instances, it's not a bad idea to go ahead

and get liability insurance, though, too, as extra protection.

If the company is bringing you on as a consultant, you want to make VERY

sure you have, and understand completely, the contract/agreement between

you. Do not start doing any work without one!
